Yes, I must admit that I enjoyed the episode. Self-contained enough that I wasn't scratching my head wondering what was going on, but enough backstory tossed in to make me curious about what's come before.

Probably wouldn't slash the Winchesters, but I see the appeal. Attractive but not overly-pretty men locked in brotherly angst! Road trips! Shared rooms! Guns! Dood, I totally see the appeal.

Also, I've always loved the 'devil at the crossroads' mythos, so that was a treat; I'm totally convinced that Justin Timberlake found a crossroads of his own in some Tennessee backwoods. ;-)

Soopernatchul! I think I've finally gotten a piece of CW crack to call my own. Oh, the shame of it all.

I'm glad you liked it. If you do come to care about Sam and Dean, I warn you, you will care desperately.

Of course Justin found a crossroads. It's the only explanation.

Also, the dynamic between Jared (Sam) and Jensen (Dean) in real life is a very JuC-type dynamic to me. *tempts*

Probably wouldn't slash the Winchesters

Just give it a few more episodes, especially if you go back and watch S1/S2. I never thought I would either. I should probably learn never to say 'never'.

LOL! You know, you'd think I'd know better too. I mean, I've been a slasher since I found fandom, now suddenly I'm writing a het pairing. I can remember when I'd have laughed hysterically if someone suggested I'd be writing het some day!

And to echo what the others have said above...give it a few more episodes. Heh. Particularly if you start from the beginning; it doesn't take long to see it. I think it took me...three or four eps to be completely sold.

And if you don't get there, well. There's always J2. And I know you're not against a bit of RPS *g*

Donna...I've written SPN gen! Okay, granted, it's all been (mostly) weechesters, but STILL. I've never, ever, in ANY of the many fandoms I've written in before, written gen.

EVER!

Oh, we have a whole dictionary! Weechesters, Weecest (this would be anything that happens pre-pilot, really), the Metallicar, Sammessiah...

Here, have some weechesters:

I LOVE the Justin-as-Robert Johnson type "Crossroads" comparison! Fanfic? With a side of JC as blues harmonica player?

I went down to the crossroads, fell down on my knees
Where I met a blue-eyed boy, made me say please

Forgive me, Robert Johnson.

After I wrote that, I was positively *aching* to hear "Hard Time Killing Floor Blues" from O Brother, Where Art Thou?, but I haven't loaded it to my iPod, dammit! It's sung by the guy they meet at the crossroads (who made a deal with the devil for his talent). What I didn't know is that the actor/singer is a real blues dude. Whee! (Chris Thomas King). Sorry if this is stuff you already know. :-)

Anyway! I *love* that idea. I agree, I need fic now/yesterday. Oddly enough, I may have to write this.

I think I do remember reading about that guy who played the Crossroads singer in O Brother Where Art Thou. I guess the character was supposed to be a Robert Johnson mythic figure, or something. Odysseus and the Blues. Or something!

Who knows, Justin may decide he's an old Black man and do a blues album. He's got so much pull, everyone wanting to work with him, he may just do it, get BB King to do a duet with him too.

Oh, yeah, you should do that fic. It'll be fabulous!

Exactly. Now we need to see Justin's version. ;-)

LOL! You know, I could almost see him doing that. Actually, I think it would be interesting. And I'd love to see the Mississippi boy add his gorgeous bass to the mix...

Oh, yeah! Lance and Justin doing something old and call-and-response-y, foot stomping, wailing and stuff.

And afterwards Justin would be all sweaty and worked up and have to throw JC down on the dusty bed at the top of the abandoned house down the way from the old well. And the ladies down the road rocking in their chairs would be fanning themselves with RFK and JFK fans and going on like "Oh, those 2 boys are at it again!"

Or something. Mmm. Hm, maybe Justin *should* do this blues album!

Welcome to the Dark Side, babe. And no, that wasn't an especially SamandDean episode--wait until you get to the ones where they're touching each other's faces. But, echoing Kim and Donna, I, too, will read and write gen in this fandom--I can tilt my head and go either way with those two, because most of the time, the sex part doesn't matter. The emotion's there, 24/7.

Whee! And you know what, it really gets a LOT better - in my view - when you watch all episodes. Like you say, the episodes are fairly self-contained if you don't know the backstory, but when you do, almost all episodes are full of the Winchester lore. It's all beautifully connected.

I watched the pilot and didn't like it. Gave it another shot much later and watch almost two seasons in a row and was completely sold. :)
