I'm pretty sure I've witnessed at least two "Oh, DEAN" episodes. More manly tears! More manly shmoop! Brotherly devotion and fatherly devotion and stuff! Making deals with demons and MANLY TEARS!!! I'm buying season three as soon as it's available.
Can't say I'm that I'm in love with the Harvelles; if I never saw them again I wouldn't be too broken up about it. The Ash character is interesting in theory, but somehow, I'm just not buying it. All in all, if the boys never go to the Roadhouse again, I won't miss it.
Most of the episodes have been enjoyable, there's only been one that felt like a bit of a throwaway. One ep out of 30+ isn't bad at all!
Also, Jensen Ackles is just insanely, ridiculously beautiful -- much like Jason Momoa. Also, like Jason Momoa, I *love* watching him work. Supernatural! YAY!!!

Date: 2008-03-08 06:21 am (UTC)Ellen I didn't mind, but honestly, after having watched Sam and Dean find their brotherly groove and then move the family puzzle pieces around to find a new fit after Dad showed up...I guess I'm just not interested (at the moment, anyway) with sharing the Winchesters with anyone. I like that the boys lean on each other for support and I liked that they'd been cautious of being around other hunters and not letting on too much of what was going on in their own lives. (I also realize that I'm getting two seasons of growth condensed over a couple of weeks, but...yeah.)
The Roadhouse Gang just feels kind of oddly tacked on -- for instance, I didn't get the sense that Ash was really giving them anything more spectacular than they'd done on their own so far (keeping in mind that I still have half of season two to go). I love a slightly loopy genius, but Ash was a cartoon. Also, a character with something to prove (Jo) just makes me INSANE. I discovered a while back that I really don't take to characters who suddenly show up and start pushing to be let in -- I don't know what that might say about me or my life or if it reflects on the way I chose my friends, but watching it play out on a TV screen just sets my nerves on edge.
there was no chemistry between the actors, so Kripke backed off on that.
Thank GOD. That's got to be one of the most painful fan experiences ever, watching two actors with NO believable chemistry try to pull off those kinds of scenes.
They bring in new people to give the Js a rest
Which I don't mind, but I don't want the new people to be annoying. ;-)
That's why some episodes have them apart for some length of time, too, to give them a break from filming once in a while.
Which understand and don't mind, but again, non-annoying characters are a huge plus. ;-) I have no problem with episodes where they each go off separately for a while.
Jensen is indeed one of the most beautiful men I've ever seen, and I think he really shines in season two. Acting-wise, Jared has improved, although he was always adorable, and is absolutely fabulous in season three. Jensen has been a joy to watch work all three seasons.
I agree with everything here! Some of Jared's reaction shots are just hilarious. AND! The scene in the hospital where Sam's standing in the doorway watching the doctors work on Dean? That was incredible. I backed up and watched that scene two or three times because he just *nailed* it. Jensen's just plain amazing to watch. Such an expressive face!
Once I burn through the episodes (hahahahahaha, making it last, my ass), I'll rewatch and take notes for each episode. I'm seriously loving this show, and I'm already dreading watching the last of my DVDs! On the plus side, since I came in so late in the game, I have most of season three to look forward to when it's finally released! YAYAYAYAYAY!!!

I just watched this ep with the commentary a few minutes ago, and I nearly laughed when Kripke started talking -- quite gleefully -- about how much he hated the Roadhouse and how happy he was to "torch the mother." ROFL! He said everything I'd been thinking, that it really, really didn't work in the world they'd built up to that point.
