What the hell!?
Feb. 10th, 2008 05:04 pmDon't click the link if you don't want to know. Sorry if the pre-cut version pissed anyone off!
What the hell are the Stargate Atlantis people smoking? You have GOT to be kidding me:
Actor Robert Picardo will join the cast as Richard Woolsey assumes command of the Atlantis expedition. Says the press release: "The team, led by Lt. Colonel Sheppard (Joe Flanigan), Dr. Rodney McKay (David Hewlett), Teyla (Rachel Luttrell), Ronon (Jason Momoa) and Dr. Jennifer Keller (Jewel Staite), must adjust to his unique leadership style."
From GateWorld.
Weh??? His "unique leadership style" means that foxmonkey has left the building for season five.
SG-1 and Atlantis storylines that dealt with red tape and bureaucratic issues have NEVER ranked highly with me, and now it looks like that's what we're going to get on a weekly basis. OH MY GOD, STARGATE IS ABOUT TO BE DED. I could kick somebody.
The only bright spot I can see here is that Woolsey will finally get a taste of what it feels like to be on the other side of the IOA microscope. Other than that, I don't see a lot of good here. What the hell do I care about bureaucrats and all that idiocy? Like there isn't enough of it in the real world? When I watch a show about outer space, I want to see new races and space exploration and Atlantis FINALLY finding enough blasted ZPMs so I never again have to hear them whining about having to find a new one.
I am not a happy fangirl. ;-p

Date: 2008-02-10 10:54 pm (UTC)I can imagine. I mean, Woolsey!! o_O Yeah. On the other hand, they completely rewrote SG1-Rodney when they recasted him for SGA. Who knows...

Date: 2008-02-10 11:05 pm (UTC)I'm trying to think of ways that this won't completely suck, but so far, I haven't come up with anything. ;-)
It smacks of lazy writing. They either can't or won't come up with new space-related ideas, so they're recycling the most tedious Earth-based portions of the franchise. Aiiii, I think I'm even more depressed. ;-p

Date: 2008-02-11 01:54 am (UTC)Look at the last two episodes, it's classic Stargate money-saving episodes. Split up the cast, and do an earth-based episode and another one in a single set/location. While I've enjoyed both a bit, it's just the SG team saving money so they can do a big Wraith ship story to end the season. lol

Date: 2008-02-11 12:09 am (UTC)I love Robert Picardo on a level that is probably not healthy considering that he's not a demon hunter, savior of the human race, space pirate, or flyboy, so I'm a little excited that I'll see more of him. However, I have great fear that he's going to make things a little awkward and embarrassing at first and that always makes me uncomfortable. I'm hoping that Rodney(and)John vs Woolsey will be cute and adorkable ftw.
It might not be so bad... *hopes not to have to eat those words*

I just have no love for the character, though I will admit he's grown since he first appeared on the show. Still...DO NOT WANT.

I'm just tired of that whole "Stargate Program vs. Earth-basedfillintheblank" thing. I know there'd be an incredible amount of bureaucratic crapola involved in a multinational off-planet expedition, but I don't necessarily want to see *that* portion of their reality on my TV screen. If there's any "us vs." going on, I want it to be something not!earth-based.

LOL! I hope you're right. I hope the writers surprise me and roll out a ton of fresh ideas for the show (and Woolsey) that will make me squeal with glee.
Also, I'm pleased that Dr. Daniel Jackson will make an appearance (yay!) but sad that we'll only see him in two episodes (wah!). Still. Daniel on Atlantis. Now, if he brings his
boyfriendgood friend Cam along for the ride, so much the better. ;-)no subject

: )
I'm very interested in the politics, but I've always wanted another cut-off-from-Earth season. I liked it when it was just a tiny outpost against the entire Pegasus Galaxy. Just in case you couldn't guess, Voyager was my favorite ST franchise.

That would be *wonderful*. Too bad it didn't happen when they had to ditch the original planet. ::le sigh::

Or maybe I just miss my Daniel. *sniff*

I agree! But he'll be there for at least a couple of episodes, so yay! Too bad they didn't bring Daniel aboard as the new expedition leader, and maybe Woolsey (if we HAD to have him) assigned as on-base liason with earth, or something.

Date: 2008-02-11 03:36 am (UTC)1. Woolsey will have to use his red-tape-fu to deal with real Pegasus disasters. Should be fun.
2. Woolsey will be in it about as much as Carter or Wier, which is to say not that much.

Date: 2008-02-14 01:05 am (UTC)Hmmm. If he uses his red-tape-fu for good instead of unnecessarily burdening the expedition with same, I will leave him alone! I doubt that's what we'll see, though. ;-)
Maybe it's just me but I've never gotten any kind of "leader" vibe from him, and I think that's what's confusing me most. I'd totally believe the character assigned to Atlantis with some sort of on-base liason function, which would have made perfect sense. But as the head honcho? The decision maker? I just don't see it.
Also, isn't he pretty quick to get his shorts in a bunch if something screwy happens when he's offworld? So, yeah, expedition leader? Not so much.

And to that I say hallelujah. ::raises hands, sways, testifies::

Date: 2008-02-14 12:47 am (UTC)Sammy's gone, gone, gone...or will be! Amanda Tapping will be starring in a new show for the SciFi Channel, called Sanctuary. She'll be on at least one Atlantis episode, the one where her upcoming absence will be explained. ALSO! Dr. Daniel Jackson will appear in a couple of episodes! ::dances:: I am happy happy.
