Found yes, you know where. In a post by RockOnML, complete with a scan of the magazine page!

Blender says that "Some Girls" is the 36th most popular song in America. I snagged the scan, added RockOnML's screenname, and shrank the size, but the thing is still about 125K, so let it load.

The blurb at the bottom of the page says, "The Most Popular Songs chart is based on radio and video airplay, and album sales. Provided by HITSDailyDouble.com."

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Velly intellesting. Went to HITS, but you have to register to have a look-see, and I've been pretty much sucking at the mailing back of passwords lately. This is too intriguing though, so I'm off to register...

Color me baffled, but... not complaining?

Unless someone's hoaxing us out the ass with a manip...check out the scan.

Well, I'm the worst person in the world at spotting manips, unless they're egregiously bad. But I guess we can check the magazine. Could just be that some people have too much time on their hands, for sure.

Seriously. WTF?

Like you, I'm not complaining but I just don't get it.

Will have to get new Blender this weekend.

Yup, confuddlated too. The song is out? When did THAT happen?

Dude, you've got me. I'm looking around, but I don't see anything that says it was released. MAJOR weirdness.

I'm looking all over the site, and not finding any mention of the song. it only shows top tens, and you have to have yet another (media base?) password, which I don't have, and have no idea of how to get.

Crap. Then that'll be the same stonewall I run into. Where were you when it asked for the second password?

I went to media, and then clicked on #1 black eyed peas (chr/pop)

and I'm not finding a single chart with hillary duff at #1, either. I dunno.

Yep, I see one where she's at number five...

I'm looking on the blender site and I don't see anything like this. Blender's not a teenie magazine, and that scan looks a little. it's skewed a little young, in my opinion. I dunno. I'm smelling a hoax.

Fargin' iceholes! Crap. And that media password dealie concerns radio stations and the like. Hmmm.

"What is MediaBase?

(totally paying you back for the grammar re-posting here!)

Hm. Okay, I'm not saying definitively that it's a fake, but as someone who knows a bit about graphic programs, I'll point out a couple things I find interesting.

Keep in mind that Blender is not a tabloid. They are professionally printed and have quality print/publication standards.

The first thing I see that seems weird to me is the words "Teen pop dead? Shut up! Lizzie McGuire starlet Hilary Duff goes straight to the head of our class." There are "boxes" around that phrase with a slightly lighter background than the rest of the black square that houses it. It should be *seemlessly* inset into that star-themed box, the same way the words "most popular songs in america" are. So if it *is* real, Blender needs a better prepress proofer.

Second (and I did register to the site to browse) I found this image on their site for the current issue:

One of them is transposed. Whether it's the print one or the web one, I don't know. I couldn't find another copy of the picture posted anywhere to compare. Which ever one did it, it's unprofessional.

Finally, there's the "Schizophrenia" vs. "Schizophrenic" issue.

I dunno. I don't think I'm gonna bite until I see the magazine.

LOL! I did enough biting for all of us. ;-)

Ugh.

Umm...let's say it's NOT a hoax, is it American?? Not that I don't believe you and all but....definitely weirdsville.

I thought that single was coming out next week or sometime after that?

And isn't his CD called Schizophrenic, not Schizophrenia?

I also can't believe Hilary Duff is at the top of the charts. ;)

You know, extreme excitement (and a ton of gullibility) will evidently lead anyone to believe anything. I'm guilty as charged on both counts.

I don't quite feel *completely* stupid, though. I mean, weirder things have certainly happened!

But in hindsight, yeah. foxmonkey = not smrt. ;-)

*g* Well, you had already pointed out that it was probably fake, so I was just helping you out in deciding that it really is a manip. It's well done, though. Or maybe it's just an advance thing and they're projecting the numbers? Or something? They do that for books... could they do it for radio airplay?

They definitely did get the name wrong, though. (Whoever "they" are.)

That's part of why I fell on the side of..."I want to believe!" Parts of it look real, and like you said, it might have been snagged from some projection chart. Or anything. And then someone with too much time on their hands decided to give the JC freaks something to bite at.

Man, I thought we finally had something. Manipping bastages! ;-)

I also just noticed that Bridge Over Troubled Water is at number 12, which can't be right, because I have NEVER heard that song on the radio, and believe me, I love Clay and I've been listening. *g*

This is fun.

This was a good manip job, indeed. But, it's fun seeing all the LJ sleuths hot on their tails. *will be looking for Blender soon*
