No, I haven't left the fandom. I'm still here, baby, soaking up all of the recent JC promo stuff and loving it. JC!!!
I was in Chicago a few weeks ago for a conference, and I love, love, love Chicago. Stayed in a hotel downtown, and had the most unbelievable view from my room. Other than the missing the husband and cats part, I could totally live that on-the-road kinda life. Except that I also hate to fly, and JEEBUS, did we encounter twelve kinds of turbulence on the flight! Freakin' glad it's like a one hour flight from home, or I'd have been a wreck.
The worst part was circling the airport for about 15 minutes before we finally landed. What a tease! I can see the ground, get me down there! One of my companions doesn't mind flying, but gets freaked out by cabbies and their wild drivin' ways. On a shuttle bus the next night, headed toward dinner, she couldn't believe that I'm afraid to fly but the bus tilting at practically a 45 degree angle to the road wasn't freaking me out. I said, "Hey, if the bus falls on the ground I can crawl to safety." Try that if your plane hits the ground. ;-)
Conference was hectic, and I missed the husband like crazy. The flight back home was ten times worse than the flight out, with major turbulence causing me many tense, unhappy moments. I hate flying. Hate it. I was so glad to be home that when Mr. Foxmonkey pulled up to the curb I started crying. Home! No more flying for me for another few years, thank you very much!
Then I got sick. Actually, I'm still sick, two weeks later. I probably need to go to a doctor and get a shot or something, but I'll continue to put my faith in over the counter drugs, Progresso soup and orange juice. I'm feeling better, well enough to actually spend time in front of the computer, which is saying a lot. For the last two weeks I've been mostly offline, going to bed as early as I could to get a little rest. Feeling crappy right now, too. Slept a little earlier, but I'm still tired.
I tend to write paragraphs, snatches of dialogue, and story ideas while I'm at work, then I fold them and toss them in my tote bag. Sometimes these are future stories, and sometimes for works in progress. Before my nap today, I found a few things for the next installment of Chasez Lake and quite a few for the installment after that. What's bugging me is that I wrote the ending for the following installment a few weeks ago, but I don't know where it is. Argh! But it's lovely, digging out all of these things now that I'm ready for them, and finding stuff I'd forgotten I'd written.
And now I'm off to transcribe the last three pages that I've found, and then surf LJ and see what everyone's up to. Mmmmm, and drink some Pepsi. ::slurp::

Date: 2003-05-25 03:33 pm (UTC)I'm glad you liked the city. What hotel did you stay in? The next time you're here, hit me up.
And, Chasez Lake! Whee! I'm glad you feel well enough to work on it again - I'm looking forward to reading the next part.
