Apparently, the Punk'd pranksters weren't too off the mark when they fingered Justin for tax evasion. Seems that the boys are being sued by the City of Columbus for $8,000 in unpaid taxes.

Bwahahahaha! This shouldn't amuse me, but it does. Hey! Their deliquency better not affect the quality of my city services, dammit!

According to the April 24-30th issue of The Other Paper (on newsstands now, Columbusites!):

Is 'NSync 'NDebt?

"Risking the wrath of teenyboppers everywhere, Columbus City Attorney Rick Pfeiffer is going after 'NSync for more than $8,000 in unpaid taxes. He's filed tax evasion lawsuits naming Zeeks Inc., the company the band formed to deal with its finances, and band members Joshua Chasez (JC), James L. Bass (Lance), Joey Fatone and Justin Timberlake. (Chris Kirkpatrick is not named because his accountant paid up.)

Anybody who earns money in Columbus...owes the city income tax.

Pfeiffer said 'NSync didn't pay after playing at the Schottenstein Center in 2000 and the Crew Stadium in 2001. The suit seeks $8,314 from Zeeks and the band members - about $4,613 in taxes and $3,700 in late fees.

Zeeks has as unlisted number, and no contact information appears on 'NSync's official website.

City tax administrator Melinda Frank said her office sends out nine notices and a letter warning that court battles are expensive and inconvenient before it refers a case to the city attorney.

Pfeiffer said the city attorney's office...collected more than $1.5 millin in unpaid taxes last year. He wishes Justin, JC, Lance and Joey would have just followed Chris Kirkpatrick's advice and paid up when the tax division came collecting.

"There is a preference," Pfeiffer said, "to get folks to comply."

JC Chasez. Sparkliest jailbird, ever.

The Other Paper has a website but sadly, no links to features inside, just the main article. Here's the link though, if you want to read about Sen. George Voinovich and the Bush tax cut dealie.

*snort* Silly boys!!

What gets me is if were you Ms Fox, I believe they could have found you right quick...in a heartbeat. But they have no clue where NSYNC is?!! BWHAHAHAHAH!!! Sorry, but it amuses me.

But did not notice who isn't going to be sued? The only smart one: CHRISSSSSSSSSSSSS!! Such a smart little gremlin. :) But I am confused on one thing: if the band started up that Zeeks thing to handle their finances, why did Chris' accountant pay up?? Hmmmmmmmm...they are just silly boys.

::puts on accountant hat::

Because Zeeks is probably a special type of corporation called an 's-corp'. Those corporations don't pay their own taxes. The income is passed on to the individual shareholders (ie - Chris, Justin, Joey, Lance & JC).

This amused me a lot " "

Danke.

I am lost when it comes to this stuff. That made sense then.

BUT (I am very good at asking questions)if Zeeks is this S-corp, then why did the City of Columbus send notices to them if they don't pay taxes?? And why wait all that time?

It's rhetorical, no need for an answer.

But I do thank you for explaining some of it to me!

And why wait all that time?

'Cause Columbus is nice enough to send you nine notices before taking your delinquent ass to court. ;-)

I am just *rolling* here at the thought of the guys flying into town to stand before a Franklin County judge. And *YES*, if it happened (I'm on crack, I know) and it was open court, you can bet I'd take the day off work to check it out!

Oh my God, I'm laughing my ass off. 'NSync on the local news, holding jackets up over their faces as reporters asked about the 8,000 bucks they owed the city!
