I've been a busy little foxmonkey, what with working and writing and stuff like that. I've been completely boring, is the truth.

But!

Read something for [livejournal.com profile] scot_ty last night, and there's something else in my mailbox that I need to look at. She's going to return the favor as soon as I get my scrambled thoughts together. Writing! You've got to love it, or commit suicide.

Heard a *kick-ass* version of What Is and What Should Never Be by Led Zeppelin on my way home this afternoon. If you're not familiar with the song (or you're unsure which one it is), you can check out the lyrics AND listen to a jazzed-up Muzak version of the tune at the same time, here! I went for the lyrics so when the tune started, it totally surprised me and completely and absolutely cracked me up. This, my friends, is the joy of music. How can you not love it?

So, it's a beautiful Friday and I'm on way home and I'm listening to a live version of this tune and it sounds recent, like older Robert Plant (or someone else) singing lead, but what kills me was the chorus - sounded a lot like Tina Turner belting it out. I'm on crack and it was probably just Robert Plant, but holy *jeebus* it sounded good. If it wasn't Tina Turner they should have asked her to do it!

Of course the DJ didn't clue me in after the thing was finished.

If anyone out there knows the version I'm talking about, please clue me in! And yes, love me some Led Zeppelin.

Speaking of (possible) Led Zep covers, I also completely love Duran Duran's cover of Thank You. And Big Head Todd and the Monsters' version of Tangerine? Makes me all fluttery and smiley. Good, good stuff.

And now off to my first love, the written word...

Yes! Oh, man, I *love* STP's "Dancing Days", one of my favorite Zep songs period. I'm fond of the Hootie cover, too, and Sheryl Crow's "D'yer Mak'r", and whoever did "Goin' to California".

And I've never heard of that Hendrix CD, but I'll have to check it. I have a great Lennon tribute CD -- Working Class Hero -- Cheap Trick's on there, and Blues Traveler does a gorgeous version of "Imagine".

Oh! I liked the Cure's version of Purple Haze, too. If you like Hendrix you should check it out. I was hoping that Sting's cover of Little Wing (beautiful) would be included, but alas, no. I've always loved that song, too short, but so lovely.

Robin Zander! Eeeee! Robin Zander! I saw Cheap Trick at Riverfront, back when it still existed. ;-) How much do I love his voice? Thanks for the tip, I'll put it on my list!

Dude, Sting's cover of Little Wing? My favorite ever. I love that SO much.

And Riverfront is still here. *g* It's called the US Bank Arena, but it's still here. (Bleh to that.) I've never seen Cheap Trick, though -- I'm so jellis! Love Robin Zander. Mmmm.
