If today weren't Friday I'd have a freakin' meltdown.

Ugly surprise number one: Logged into my bank account this morning and thought the balance looked waaaaaay low. A quick scan of the recent transactions showed an 816.00 charge to SierraTradingPost.com. WEH!?

I was shaking and livid and wanted to disembowel someone when I saw that charge. EIGHT HUNDRED AND SIXTEEN FRIGGIN' DOLLARS. Absolute sons-o'-bitchin' bastards! Called the bank right away and blocked the card. Went to the branch this afternoon to fill out an affidavit, and the bank will take it from there. I was *so* friggin' pissed off, you wouldn't believe it.

Ugly surprise number two: Probate lawyer called this afternoon (just as I was calming down about Ugly surprise number one) to tell me that Bro!monkey has apparently sold his half of our inheritance (read: the house we grew up in) to one of those lump sum companies.

OH MY GOD, the anger. I was more pissed off about that than the fraudulent charge on my credit card! He never said a word, and he's talked to my lawyer a couple of times and never mentioned it to him, either. Luckily, the deed's still in estate and hasn't been changed to our names yet, so I still have a little control, according to my tax lawyer/probate guy.

I've moved from feelings of deep, profound anger and betrayal to feelings of deep, profound disappointment. I'm pissed that no one knew about this til the lawyer got the papers in the mail today. I'm disappointed that he didn't just man up and tell me about it beforehand. I'm deeply disappointed because this is the latest in a string of incidents that makes me wonder what happened to the little boy who was my best friend when we were growing up. It's like...the portion of what I think of as my brother is just a thin shell surrounding some bizarre core of weirdness that I don't even know anymore. I'm pretty sure I'm done with him.

That credit card thing is scary. I've taken to really checking my balance too. Good thing you took a look.

I'm sorry about the brother. I don't understand why he wouldn't have discussed this with you...that doesn't seem right. I hope that he will talk to you about it now that you know, maybe make you understand why he did it that way.

I know. :-( I want to look into safer ways to use plastic, because I really, really like not having to carry cash around. Maybe one of those cards that you load up with cash as needed, or something like that.

That's the part that gets me, that he didn't mention it, he just did it without even talking to the probate lawyer first to see how it might affect things!

OH dear. I'm so sorry, Fox -- I know just where you're coming from, with the identity-theft horror as well as the deep disappointment that can be caused by an errant sibling. ((hugs)) At least you have Mr. Foxmonkey.

There was a probate matter in my office a few years ago where one of the heirs kept selling off portions of his inheritance to those blood-sucking inheritance funding companies, and I was appalled at the interest they charge. Why do they even exist? It's so friggin' wrong.

Anyway, dude, I'm very sorry. This is no way to start a weekend, but I hope yours gets better.

My lawyer said, "I'd say that these companies are sewer sludge, but that's an insult to the sludge!"

At least you have Mr. Foxmonkey.

Yay! Between Mr. Foxmonkey and the fact that it's Friday, my brain narrowly averted exploding this afternoon. ;-) Thanks babe. :-) (((((Kaelie))))

My mother went through a similar problem with her account past Christmas so I feel your pain. I'm sorry about what you're going through with your brother. ):

I hope things get better and I'm sending positive thoughts your way. -e

Thanks. :-) The hubs bought me a bottle of wine, which I've opened and am now drinking. OY. Good thing I only drink once or twice a year.

ugh - both those are definitely nasty, no-fun situations! hopefully the bank will prevail and resolve the credit mess soon, and that things work out with the estate *bonks your brother upside the head*

Luckily there are better days- so i hope the whole bank thing gets resolved and you get your old brother back asap. *hugs*

So sorry about the money;just happened to my 72 yr old and I had to go to the bank with him because he was too upset to think straight. Not to mention the fact he had two heart attacks already and this looked like it could head to #3. *meep*

Brothers! MINE *gah* asked me if he could borrow money so he could pay his rent (he go laid off from his restuarant after 9/11, it was near the towers) and I did that for two months PLUS pay his share of a party for my parents and then when I ask him for the money "Oh you never did that for me". THAT prompted my brother in law who does NOT get involved in the sibling battles to tell him that he, BiL, drove there with the checks in his hand from me. "Oh, THOSE? Those were gifts!" Those "gifts" nearly put me in bankruptcy and thank you very much for letting your wife visit her family 3 times a yr in Ecuador!

I wonder how we are related! and yeah, I want to be done with him but the parents & sister keep making me talk to him.
