Torchwood! Martha's first episode! (last week's)

Thoughts on last week's Torchwood (Martha's first guest ep!), nabbed from email I sent scot_ty:

Okay, now why haven't the rest of the episodes been like this? Good team interaction, and DAMMIT, THEY'RE MAKING ME LIKE FORMERLY-CREEPY, NOW-HUMAN OWEN. Bastiges. ;-p The flirting and teasing were waaaay cute, and I think it had just the right touch. Jack was back to himself, YAY!, and the episode was very nicely paced. A couple of things niggled, of course.

Gwen. I'm so tired of this Jack-fascination that I could scream. Martha's been in the Hub for twenty hot seconds before Gwen's asking questions about Jack. Is this woman engaged or not? At this point I wish they'd just cut her ties to Rhys and be done with it; it was annoying before but it's starting to give me a really creepy vibe. I want to make my peace with Gwen. They've given me a Gwen that I like, but this stalkerish obsession with Jack keeps setting her back a couple of paces. Why do they do this?

Tosh. Wide-eyed Tosh practically begging Owen for a date. It was sad before, now it's just creepy. Well, creepy and sad. And really, really creepy.

Waaaaay off the cuteness scale: Eve Myles in the actor interviews saying that it was lovely having Freema there, that it was nice having another girlie on set. OH MY GOD I NEARLY EXPLODED WITH THE CUTE. The look on her face was just adorable. :-)

Martha was completely awesome and I love her like mad. Your mileage may vary. ;-)
And now my as-it-aired notes...

1) Hahahahahaha...Martha flashes her UNIT card and Ianto steps it up. Martha! My gorgeous TV girlfriend! Big Jack hug! She's a VIP visitor!

2) Martha pwns everyone. Aw, Owen's feeling inadequate. Yay! Cute Jack/Martha interaction.

3) They're cute togther. She still misses the Doctor (he was an ass at times, but I'd probably miss the doofus too). He recommended her for UNIT. Yes, he owed her a *big* one, the ninny.

4) Okay, Martha's been in the Hub for about twenty seconds and Gwen's starting in with the Jack questions. SHUT UP! Does the woman have a fiance or not???

5) Owen's trying so hard to impress Martha. Ianto screaming and ducking when Owen nearly hit him with the weird alien device...too hilarious, especially the look Ianto gave him after. Ianto, I love you.

6) Owen and Martha in the lab, the part where they're twirling the bottles, etc.? Am I the only person who thought it was a bit like Cocktail with lab coats?

7) Freaky-weird scene in the hospital with the weird sickness bees.

8) Overall, nicely paced episode. A bit quick, but that eliminates a lot of superfluous crap.

9) Yay! The real Jack is back! Good scene with Owen, Jack and the head of The Pharm.

10) Lots of references to Martha's end-of-the-world experiences without bludgeoning you over the head with it. Nicely doen!

11) Jack's an innovative lover, bordering on the avant garde. Martha's into the boi!love!

12) "Oh, I'm a camera!" Love the interaction with Owen: "Well, I'll be doing some things with my eyes shut, then." This is *so* much better than I expected the writers to deliver.

13) Martha whipped out the weird technospeak! "Oh, cool." Jack says she's brilliant, AND SHE IS. I love Martha so much that it hurts.

14) Owen's human! Now, I almost wouldn't mind Martha getting together with this version of Owen.

15) I can't stand Tosh. Seriously. Begging Owen for a date. YIKES.

16) Martha needs to invest in some Chucks because heels make too much noise when you're trying to sneak around. Has the Doctor taught her nothing?

17) Ianto is the Weevil Master! I love Ianto.

18) Weh? They shot Owen? They *killed* Owen? Sorry, I don't buy it. Also, how much do I hate that they made Owen human and got me to like him just so they could kill him and I'd care??? Manipulative bastards! The previews don't look too promising, Owen not being dead-wise. ::cries::

Overall, MAJOR SQUEE from me, one of the strongest episodes of the second season so far.

I love Martha. I want her to cross over to the Supernatural universe and marry Dean...though she'd be a better fit with Sam. Hmmm. Must think on this.

I swear, before this episode? I did not have much interest in Martha. I mean, I didn't dislike her. But I was kind of... meh. I don't know.

But then suddenly it was like OMG CRUSH CRUSH CRUSH. *SWOON*

I watched it, watched it again, and then immediately pulled out my Doctor Who Season 3 DVDs and marathoned like a mo-fo.

So. Fucking. Cute. God I love her smile. It makes me want to make out with her in the Torchwood morgue.

Because, clearly, I'm a freak.

In my humble opinion, this one and the next two episodes (The Holy Trilogy) have been the strongest Torchwood yet since "Captain Jack Harkness". I hope you continue to be as pleased as I have been.

I seem to say this at least twenty times per sentence when I talk about her, but honestly, she's just...squeeifyingly cute. Absolutely gorgeous, with what seems like the personality to match -- everyone who's met/worked with the actress seems to adore her. I was hooked from the moment Martha appeared onscreen in her first Who episode! I'm a big ol' freak when it comes to Martha Jones; I cannot be objective because I love her so.

In my humble opinion, this one and the next two episodes (The Holy Trilogy) have been the strongest Torchwood yet since "Captain Jack Harkness". I hope you continue to be as pleased as I have been.

If the next two are anything like last week's, I'll be a happy happy fangirl. The show's improved overall since the first season, but there have been some maddening missteps as well. I'd hoped that Martha's episodes would be good, but I was afraid to put too much faith in the production team. YAY, I WAS WRONG! They delivered and then some!

Yes, it is absolutely impossible to discuss Martha without reference to the CRAZY cuteness factor. She's just... she. the smile! and she's so vivacious, and gushy and yet capable. And she looks really great in a tank top.

I just wouldn't get your hopes up (and thus be disappointed) about the amount of screen time she gets in the next two. There are too many other things going on, so it's not as much The Martha Show as "Reset" was. But I've been pleased. She's got a great vibe with the team.

There are rumors that she may join Torchwood next year, and to that I say YAY! I'd love to see more of her on a regular basis. Sadly, there are also rumors that Barrowman may be leaving. He's so much a part of the show that I don't know how to imagine it without him. Then again, I learned to love David Tennant after Christopher Eccleston broke my heart and left Doctor Who...

I've been keeping away from SmithnJones and LoMartha, kind of peeking in to read the subject headers and that's about it. But I want to read the new fic that's been inspired by new canon! I want to read reaction posts!!! I'm usually not this allergic to spoilers!

I did however, see the rumors floating around that she may join (be asked to join?) Torchwood next season! Sadly, I've seen that John Barrowman might be leaving. :-( I'd love to see Martha join though, especially with the Who's hiatus year coming up. Then when the Doctor returns, perhaps she'll rejoin the TARDIS full time! (yes, hoping against hope) If nothing else, she'll be *spectacularly* placed for several guest shots as the Doctor's UNIT/Torchwood liaison. :-D

Well I've got an AU post-Reset fic on my LJ and reaction posts to all three episodes - if you check my Torchwood tag, you'll find them easily (and everything's cut so you won't see anything accidentally)...

Don't take that rumour about JB leaving too seriously - the newsreport that came from was WAY out in terms of known facts (like current filming for DW and when they're filming the specials) so since they couldn't even get THAT right, I've no faith in them getting anything else right ! I did speculate (after seeing A Day in the Death) that Martha might go back to TW again...

And yes, it's quite possibly you're hoping in vain but I'm doing the same !

I DVRd but haven't watched Dead Man Walking. I think I'll do that now! Back in an hour with my thoughts.
