Notes written while I watched the Torchwood finale,

1) It's Owen's fault [that the rift was opened] and he's copping an attitude??? You have got to be kidding me.

2) Jack calls Owen on opening the rift and Gwen's worried about Owen's feelings? That Jack's "picking on him"??? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! OH MY GOD, comedy gold, folks. I think they may be taking that Gwen's the heart of Torchwood hokum just a wee bit too far.

3) Okay, this is just...mind-boggling. Owen friggin' opened the rift, knowing full well that he shouldn't, and he's standing there, screaming at Jack, "What are you going to do?" This entire mess is Owen's fault and he's getting in Jack's face. Seriously, if Ianto shot Owen ten or twelve more times, it still wouldn't be enough.

4) Ianto needs to shoot Owen again.

5) "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry." Hey, that's the Doctor's standard line!

6) So Owen's boo-hooing about being retconned and Gwen's telling Jack "it's gone far enough." Shut up! SHUT UP! Good for Jack though, he stuck by his guns and let Owen go. Yay! Now if only Owen were truly gone...if only Gwen had walked out after him...

7) Come on, somebody please shoot Owen.

8) Jack: We all end up alone. Gwen: Not me.

Self-righteous cow. She cheats on her boyfriend, retcons his ass, then lords it over the others that she has a 'life' and they don't. Somebody please, please shoot Gwen.

9) Tosh smiles because Owen's come back. [insert sounds of rage]

10) Now they're all against Jack. Weh? See, this is the point where Jack needs to realize that Torchwood: The Cardiff Years has failed spectacularly and things have gone beyond any kind of half-assed retcon solution. In my fantasy, he's wearing a low slung holster on his hips. He whips out twin bottles of pterodactyl-sauce, one in each hand, squirts the team, and then gives a mating whistle to attract the pterodactyl's attention. Said dino swoops down and begins pecking at the T-wood crew while Jack slips away to the safety of his dino-proof office. A girl can dream, can't she?

11) They're the biggest bunch of losers on the planet.

12) "If you want to be in charge you have to have significantly bigger balls." In your face, Owen! I laughed madly at that line. Go, Jack, go!

13) "So in love with Rhys that you spend half your time in Owen's bed." But, but, but...Gwen's the heart of Torchwood! She's allowed her human failings while calling others on theirs! Oh Gwen, I hate you so. Loved the verbal smackdown.

14) Newsflash: Owen just committed murder, yes? At the time he killed Jack, did Owen know for sure and certain that Jack's immortal? I think not. Keystone Kops with guns, folks.

15) Gwen's pathetic.

16) Jack destroyed the demon. Yay! Honestly, the T-wood crew need to take Torchwood 101, in which the first lesson is Don't Open the Rift, and the second, Don't Believe Everything that People Tell You.

17) Nice bits: Ianto smelling Jack's coat. Jack kisses Ianto. And in the midst of this insanity, one utter genius moment: Owen finally takes responsibility for what's he's done and breaks down crying on Jack's shoulder. Jack cradles him and kisses the top of his head. FOR THE FREAKIN' WIN, folks.

18) Jack's in love with the Doctor. Yeah, not that this needed its own bullet point or anything, just putting it out there.

So! Jack's off to hang with the Who crowd for a bit, and when he gets back, it will be (should be?) after The Year That Never Was. Woot! Great ending.

Amen!

This is the crux of it and it's a real conundrum. I'm hooked on the show, but despise 2 of the main characters. Gwen and Owen could both die excruciatingly painful deaths disappear tomorrow and I would never miss a beat. I just hope that the scripts are weighted more heavily toward Jack this season. Enough with the Gwen stories.

And I meant to ask you this before, after I read your season one rankings. You never mentioned anything about the episode "They Keep Killing Susie" and it was one of my favorites. Was it the mythology that bothered you, or was it the Gwen factor?

Excuse me while I boggle for a moment or two. ::boggle:: Dude! I knew your Gwen-view was in flux, but...wow. And I agree with you completely.

Owen is absolutely awful, I don't care how much they try to convice me (much too late) that there's a real human being beneath his creepy!horrible exterior. I just don't care about him as a character, and I'm not sure what they can do to remedy the situation in season two.

Gwen's characterization was absolutely abysmal. She's got to be the worst excuse for audience buy-in since...good Lord, I can't think of a worse character in recent memory that I was supposed to care for. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, she's the heart of the show? Puh-leeze.

The Gwen factor killed it for me. I loved Susie, she was delightfully evil, but my God, they just kept hitting me over the head with Gwen and how special and important and fabulous she is and MY GOD, enough is enough.

I just hope that the scripts are weighted more heavily toward Jack this season. Enough with the Gwen stories.

I agree. Like Owen, I can't think of anything at this point that would make me care for Gwen. I want to see some Jack focus, dammit, since he's the whole reason I'm watching.

If season two continues like season one, I don't think I'll be around for the third. Actually, if season two continues like season one, I don't think the BBC will bring it back for a third...

See! I knew that you hated it. Maybe it's not enough like Dr. Who. I know that you're a huge fan of that show and Torchwood is just not going to be your cup of tea. :-(

I know I seem to have a *very* much love/hate/hate relationship with the show, but I really do enjoy it. Some things I find highly annoying, irritating and exasperating, but I do enjoy the show as a whole, overall.

Nah, I wouldn't want Torchwood to be like Who. Not everything that works in the Who universe would make the translation to Torchwood.

And now I'm off to watch the first ep of the new season. I've got my fingers crossed...
