Formerly referred to as the fic that has been languishing like a heroine in a bad Southern novel (TM), I've finished Sugar, a JuC-flavored slutfic. Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] bitterchick for the fabulous beta. :-)

I have now lost my slutfic virginity. And that sounds all kinds of wrong.

Oh, beautifully done. That was hot and sweet and funny and sad all at once. Like a black&white film playing in the dark with a soundtrack from some up-and-coming trance band. I really like how you included the detail of Chris not being Okay with it at first. I've always thought that's a little more realistic than stories that are just "suddenly, group sex". (Not to say that I don't like those, too.) And the little subtle allusions to the reasons why Chris is not Okay with this, afterwards, really broke my heart.

I think what really got me, though, was this line: "It was a practice you'd all gotten into in the early days when you were bumping and edging against each other, becoming a group. The dark was made for saying things that hurt, things that made your heart ache." I'm not sure why that affects me so much, but I think it has to do with the resonance of familiarity there -- we've all been there, we've all been at a point where we just couldn't say something when there was eye contact involved. And the thought of these five guys, thrown together, figuring out who they are and how they relate, figuring out that it's just easier to say some things in the dark? Yeah. I like it a lot.

This story is hot sex, but it's not primarily about the sex, and I think that's why I dig it so much. It's about the sharing, and about what happens when people want what's being shared so much that they don't dare to want it at all, and that resonates a lot.

Thank you for sharing this. I enjoyed it immensely :)
