The 4400! Jump that shark!
Jul. 9th, 2006 10:59 pmCut-tagged for anyone who doesn't want to be spoiled.
Dammit! I like Isabelle, and I like her with Shawn (so cute). I DVR'd, so it's already over and I don't know what happened yet, but waaaaaah! Izzie's on some crazy killing rampage, and if they know who threatened Shawn, why are they trying to trace all these contacts instead of just going for the dude who's probably responsible for Shawn's mania? I'm too tired and confused to just start the show over and figure it out. Oy, my brain hurts.
For me, this show is *really* close to jumping the shark. But yay! Creepy Matthew's dead! I hated that guy. Yay! Shawn was just cured! Okay, they promised that a 4400 would bite the dust, so I'm assuming this scuzzy guy is going to be the one. Sawn just found out that Iz killed a bunch of folks...and now she's about to kill again, right in front of Shawn. This is bad! Stop! Too late. Yes, I know I'm babbling.
I regret that I can't make rational, analytical posts about shows that I watch. I'd love to be that person, the one who has all this insight about what she does and doesn't like and can offer it up logically and calmly. But, no! I'm a raving reactionary!
Okay, psycho Izzie's in chains, and that keeps her mental powers under control...how? Russian-chick's backstory isn't even secondary to me this week. She's fine for me as a background player, but I'm just not invested enough in her character to care - is it not that interesting, or is it just me? Hmm.
Tom's in Isabelle's room! And that was a pretty spooky shot of him there at the desk. Now they're talking. Will he do it? Here goes... He didn't do it!
Oooh, Russian-girl's story just got a little more interesting.
Dennis Ryland? Who dat?

Date: 2006-07-11 01:34 am (UTC)I know you think Shawn is cute. Don't lie. ;-) I first started watching this with a slasher's eye (yeah, there's a surprise), and thought perhaps Kyle/Shawn would be interesting. Unfortunately, Kyle has a weird nose and I just couldn't slash them. Shawn and Isabelle though, are too gorgeous and cute for words.

Date: 2006-07-10 10:57 pm (UTC)It's such a strange story line, almost like watching every other episode of a series and then filling in the blanks yourself. There are so many gaps and changes of direction with characters that I'm completely gone.
You know what else is weird? His partner and her new relationship with the guy who in the first season was just a flunky tech guy at work. There was no foreplay, no flirting, no lead-up at all. Just boom! They're a couple. It's the same path they travelled with Tom. The woman he's married to had no relationship with him at all. Craziness.
I'm finally watching SG-1, but you're an Atlantis chick, no?

Date: 2006-07-11 01:08 am (UTC)No! Yay, you're watching SG-1! Have you started with the older eps (years 1-9), or are you starting with this past season's episodes (with Ben Browder as Cameron Mitchell)? I'm disappointed that SciFi has moved the big Monday night five-episode block out of rotation, but I had a feeling that was about to end. The second half of the season is right around the corner, and I can't wait.

Date: 2006-07-11 01:35 am (UTC)The part I'm really worried about are the newest episodes, what Candy labeled as the third incarnation. O'Neill is not easily replaced and I miss the original Stargate commander, Don Davis, but mostly I don't care for the storyline as much and the changing cast of characters. *And* I feel lost. An awful lot has happened that I will just never know.

Date: 2006-07-11 02:16 am (UTC)I've got a few quibbles with the new shows and cast, but one thing I do like is that Lt. Mitchell is portrayed as not just liking Daniel, but respecting his work, his contributions and his worth as a person. As much as I like the original cast, there were times when I wanted to drop-kick O'Neill into the next universe. The writers/producers don't seem to have much use for academics, and used Jack as their vehicle to get that point across a little too vehemently at times. Mitchell can be a jackass of a leader, certainly, but at least he likes Daniel. :-)
Dr. Lam. OH MY GOD, how I hated her when she first joined the show. To be fair, she had some mighty huge shoes to fill, following in Janet's footsteps. I'm *just* getting used to her wooden, deadpan delivery and cold bedside manner. I'm still not sure if that's supposed to be her character or if the actress is just that bad. OY.
*Love* Claudia Black, love Vala. It'll be interesting to see what they do with her character.
Sam. SamandJack. If I were any less interested in their supposed/imagined "relationship" (heavy on the air quotes), I'd be comatose. Sam was starting to get on my nerves, but she's improved this year. Yay! I hate that she's defined by her breasts and blonde hair, and not by what's inside her skull. Is it really necessary for EACH AND EVERY MALE GUEST STAR to instantly become enthralled with Lt. Carter? I think not.
I'm really scared to see what happens with Jack coming back. I hope he's not wasted on silly Sam/Jack storylines. I'll love it if he's used to whip Mitchell's leadership skills into shape.
I miss Gen. Hammond like crazy. I think his character was absolutely perfect. Landry is certainly no Hammond, but other than the goofy daddy issues with his daughter (HUGE eyeroll here), he hasn't gotten on my nerves too badly.
God knows what the upcoming Atlantis crossovers will bring us. ::is skeered::

Date: 2006-07-11 01:29 am (UTC)Isn't that bizarre? And they *know* their relationship is based on a false history together.
Why does he need a new fake family? Did the writers want to avoid the divorced cop with bitchy ex-wife storyline? If so, why not just make him a happily married man *with the wife he already had*? And what the hell is happening with Kyle? Is he doomed to the same fate as the original oldest kid on Happy Days? Big brother Chuck was there the first year, went to college and was never heard from again. So sad. Poor Kyle. He served his purpose and The Future disappeared him. ;-)

I thought I'd missed something the first time they started cozying up, then I realized that it was just bad writing. Bad writing, bad plotting, whatever you want to call it.
I think they have too many things they want to do, too many stories they want to tell, and they're trying to cram in as much as they can before the show is cancelled. ;-)
Maia's mother bugs me...and isn't it sad that I can't think of her name? Is it just me, or has her character completely changed? I understand becoming a mother is bound to change someone, but honesly, it's like she's become a pod version or her former self. WEIRD. She REALLY got on my nerves last night.

Date: 2006-07-11 01:52 am (UTC)Are we eventually going to find out that everyone is being changed by interacting with The 4400? And enough with all the dreams. Write a script that makes sense and have at least one character keep the timeline so there's something to compare all the bizarre stuff to.
It's funny; the comment you made about trying to stuff everything in before they get cancelled. There was a new show called Surface and it got jerked around until it was impossible to keep the story going/develop it reasonably so they started jumping ahead, introducing things that had no backstory. The very last episode was ridiculous because of it. It left huge holes in the text that will never be resolved.

Date: 2006-07-11 02:32 am (UTC)Aiiiiii! Yes, yes, yes! I couldn't believe it when she actually suggested that Matthew and Richard were too close to what happened to look at things objectively. Yeah, pot/kettle much, raving mother-of-the-victim-who's-also-investigating-the-case? That episode was a complete mess.

Date: 2006-07-11 01:42 am (UTC)Oops, I need to clarify my first response. I'm not much into Atlantis as far as caring about what happens to the characters. I hate Sheppard's carefully mussed hair. I can't stand Rodney McKay and I'm completely baffled as to why everyone thinks he's so adorable. The ridiculously attractive Jason Momoa, a.k.a. Ronon Dex, is the ONLY reason I started watching that show. I DVR it and then speed through watching for the Ronon bits. Now *his* character is adorable. ;-)
