And the weaponry doesn't hurt either (I can't help it, I'm an Army brat, it's imprinted on my brain that Real Men Do In Fact Carry Guns.) I fear this is hopeless, and I should just give in already.

I love his character. I've only seen bits and pieces, and maybe two entire episodes, but I swear, when I saw him on the commercials announcing the new season this past July, I thought, I have *got* to watch that show. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get over my extreme dislike of Rodney McKay and/or Dr. Weir - two reasons why I just can't watch.
