JC solo blues.
Aug. 12th, 2003 06:44 amI'm kind of stunned by the stuff I'm reading concerning the latest JC/solo wrinkle.
without_me's got the scoop here and here. Also seen at the JJB, in a post by JayneOC:
"JoJo Said JC 's First Single May Be a Collaboration...That he's about to record and not a song he's already done. He wouldn't say with who, but it should be big." ... "He said JC's "manager" told him it. Said he wouldn't tell him who it is. Could be a man.. could be a woman." ... "Yeah.. he confirmed that it was pushed back. But how could it be out next week if he's recording it now?"
Later in the post someone said they thought a collaboration with Johnny Wright's new find Harlemm would be cool. The same sentiment popped up on the Too Old For This Crap yahoo!group, and the poster mentioned that part of the Fame winner's (Harlemm) prize package was the promise of a major artist producing the first recording. To which I responded:
Honestly, I'd hope JIVE would think more of JC's solo project than as a springboard for a talent contest winner.
A collaboration with an unknown quantity doesn't really do a whole lot to propel JC as a solo artist. I don't know what the thinking is at the JIVE offices, but they're really beginning to squander any hope for momentum that JC's had. All the false starts and the hit and miss promo...it's ridiculous.
As far as "big, new" goes...Lenny Kravitz? Alicia Keys? Christina? Those names would be interesting. Big names that would generate the interest JIVE seems to think JC lacks on his own.
It's all so depressing.

Also, as I commented in
without_me's journal: "JIVE. And if that isn't the most *apt* name for that sack of clueless imbeciles, I don't know what is."
And that about sums it up for me. I could just kick someone.
