ARGH!!!! avi doesn't play!?

I just spent half my life downloading JC on CNN, and the thing won't play! I get audio, but no video. Why can't there be ONE standard player for all this stuff? Quicktime, RealPlayer, MediaPlayer...it's ridiculous! And you have to keep up with the stuff because whatever you want to download next is *guaranteed* to be incompatible with whatever the hell you already have to play it on.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Software, man.

What am I doing wrong? I'm crying. ::sob:: It's been a long day, I'm still crampy, and I'm cranky. I'm sorry if I offended anyone. I just wanna see JC. ::sobs again::

Yes! Codecs! How many are there, do they make one up for every single clip ever created? That's insane. Everytime I download something it seems like I need yet another codec for it.

Can you tell that I'm just a little aggravated? ;-)

I went back in the sweeteyedelights archives and she posted about it a few days back. Something about not being able to make .wmv's. I just listened without picture and that was good enough for me. *g*

Is this a good one? The divx codec thing came bundled with a divx player, so now I've got like, five different media players. ;-) Since it's officially a collection, I might as well throw another one on the pile! ;-)

It's really good. If some file doesn't work with the player it's suppse to play on I'll try the vlc player and it will work.

If you download the codec that was linked above, it should work in your default player. When I downloaded it, it installed a special viewer on my computer, but simply having the codec in place allowed the .avi file to play in both WMP and Jet Audio, so it's all good.
