Holy bejeebus, I just had the scare of my life.

I call Dad every night at 9:00. He had a sore throat last night, so I knew he wasn't feeling well. I called tonight around ten after, no answer. I called again at 9:15, same thing. I called his next door neighbors -- always my fallback if he doesn't answer -- but there was no answer there, either. I called again at 9:20 and 9:25, alternating between the two numbers, starting to get seriously freaked.

Since it gets dark so late I know there's always the chance that he's still outside puttering around, but he's usually in by 9:25 at the latest. I called again at 9:30 and when he picked up the phone I burst into tears. Turns out that the neighbors are all outside cleaning and prepping their pool for the 4th, and the old man was out back hanging with them. My heart is still beating a mile a minute.

I'm very pleased to write "Dad, on the phone" in the Music: box below. ::relieved::

God, that gave me a massive headache.

My sister and I have been living that nightmare on a regular basis now for the last six months. Dad goes through these periods where he doesn't feel like answering the phone, or returning email, and he's fallen quite a bit of late, and yeah. Nothing quite like that heart-stopping moment of wondering just what the hell's going on.

*hugs* to you, and I'm glad you reached him finally!

Thank GOD he always answers! I can only imagine the agony of wondering whether he's in a cantankerous mood or if something's really wrong. ::hugs to you::

He lives in a split level, so I've begun worrying about the stairs of late. Oy.

Many thanks for the hugs. :-)

I understand completely.

BOTH my parents have had heart attacks and when one complains of feeling faint/tingling we all get worried.

Once I called home to see how Daddy was feeling & he said he felt short of breath. I told him to call the doc and then call me back. 20 mins go by nothing, I call the house. Nothing. 30 mins no word and no answer at the house. I call my sister who is not home & goes back home to see what happened. Daddy isn't home and Mommy is calling from work looking for him.

HE and the doc realized it was side effect of another Rx so he went & got some pepto. NEVER told any of us. We thought he was taken to the ER. He got a lecture from me (after I cried he was ok), my brother in law, my sister and the neices esp the youngest who was hysterically crying "Pop-pop, you have to tell Mommy where you are so we know you are ok." He now has a cell phone.

parents...when did THEY become the children?

LOL! I KNOW! I'd just started to run through the list of things I needed to do in case something awful had happened - call my brother, email work to let them know I wouldn't be in Monday, etc...

There's even a phone jack in the garage, but he's always got some goofy excuse why he doesn't plug the phone in when he's out there. ::rolls eyes::

Isn't it scary when you start going over "what to do IF happens.." *shudder*

I think it was a very slow transition--probably done purposely so none of us noticed it was happening. But lord, I'm not ready for that phase of my life; my kid is still a kid, and I only had ONE for a reason!

(I'm glad your dad was okay!)

Definitely not ready to be their parent especially since I'm not a parent. My sister keeps telling me she has five kids; not just her two girls, then there is the dog, her husband and our parents.

gah
