Not as in very gay, but really, for real gay, and not just slashing happily in fic. Here's my question.

Whose parents would most likely freak? Would anyone's parents freak? I can imagine Joey's being the most surprised, considering, but would any of them actually get disowned by their families? But have they all been in and around the business so long that they'd just accept (maybe even believe deep down, in the case of a couple of sparkly boys) that their kid might be gay, and therefore have no problem with it?

I'm asking because there seems to be the fannish perception (in fic, anyway), that JC's parents would be the least accepting. This is due in part, I'm guessing, to the fact that his parents seem to keep the lowest profile of any of the Sync!sires. Hmmm, or would that be Chris' mom? You get my drift, though. But Chris' mom is usually given a wide-open mind by writers. I'm assuming that because of her background, she'd be hard-pressed to throw stones at anyone else's choice of lifestyle.

So, tossing fannon aside: let's assume for the sake of argument that the guys are gay. Whose parents would be the most accepting? Who would run screaming, and keep a game face for the cameras but demand no boyfriend set foot in their house, ever?

Answer any way you choose. I'm curious kids, and yes, it's for fic. I need to get these rusty wheels turning, and this is one time I'd like to see what others think. Hit me up, yo! Answer the question. Please?

I think all the the parents would be accepting. At least the Moms, anyway, and definitely Joey's Dad as well. Don't know about the other Dads, so couldn't rightly say. Of the Moms I've seen, Karen Chasez seems the least demonstrative (reference Ananda lewis) so I could see her being less accepting than the other moms, but not totally unaccepting. Maybe disappointed and upset, but willing to work on it so she doesn't lose her son.

See, that's what I was thinking, too. Then I wondered how realistic that would be, but really, I think we're right. And we're only talking a group of five, not five hundred, so for five mothers to love their sons enough to be accepting of an alternative lifestyle...I'm down with that. :-)

Thanks for answering!

I really hate how everyone makes Lance's mother look like some big time bible banger who would die of a heart attack if she found out her son were gay. Yes, people in Mississppi are religious and all, but she seems like an understanding person. I can't see any of the parents blowing a gasket in reality. Which is why people write AU fiction, I suppose.

I know; she seems like a genuinely sweet person. I think she'd probably handle it pretty well. I wouldn't be surprised if she's gotten in a pre-emptive strike, "You know, Lance, tell JC that we'd love to see him while you're in Russia, just to visit, or whatever. He's such a sweet boy." And Lance is groaning with embarrassment, turning bright red as his mom pokes him in the ribs.

Thanks!

Yeah, that's exactly how I see it. JC seems like a daddy's boy, though. Just from those pictures of him and his dad from that last CFTC. After seeing his dad hugging him like in public, it made me think about some things. I mean I've never really seen a guy put his arms around his 25 year old son from behind before. Heh.

And no problem. :)

The thing about the parents is that they all seem to truly adore their sons, so I have kind of a hard time imagining that any of them would flat-out disown a child if he was gay.

The fanon thing about JC's parents being cold bugs the hell out of me, because in a lot of ways (in the like, two minutes I've seen of them) they remind me of my own parents, who are the most loving parents ever. I think they just like to keep a low profile, and I also think that, like Chris' mom, they're very aware that they have more than one child. I think they work pretty hard at not valuing JC more than they value his siblings, but that doesn't mean they don't love him. Like, Justin is his mom's only child (right?), so she can fawn on him all she wants, and Lance's entire family seems to work for FreeLance, and Steve goes everywhere Joey goes (and I assume Janine could, if she wanted to), so.

Hmm, I'm babbling. Bottom line: I think they all love their kids. They might not all take instantly to the idea of their son macking on another guy, but I think they'd all come around eventually. If I had to pick one to take it hardest, I'd say either Lance's dad or Justin's dad, purely because they're the only ones I know nothing at all about.

I concur, sir! Hmmm, now I'm imagining a mom-centric fic, maybe a series of phone conversations where they're all doing the gossip thing, then the support thing, maybe with a couple of "keep your kid away from my kid!" and then eventually they all accept it and move on. And give the kids condoms and lube for Christmas. Kind of like Steel Magnolias but very different. ;-)

Excellent point, and kudos to both moms for what has to be an interesting (to say the least) balancing act. Jeez, can you imagine the sibling rivalry? It's bad enough when your brother's showing you up in math class.

I was just thinking about this the other day, seeing pics of Mama Crunk with her boy at the fight, and earlier at the Grammys, and in the infamous Freddy pic where Justin's flashing the finger...is she still married? I'm sure she's home more than she's not, but I wonder if jetting around with JT causes any stress at home? Hmm, that's a whole 'nother post right there. ;-)

Anyway, thanks mucho for your thoughts!

She's still married to Paul, but Justin's her only child. Lynn and Paul never had any other children. So I dunno what the deal is with that. I know Justin's close to all the familia though.

And for the question... Like...

I think in the end, it wouldn't really matter because their parents seem to be completely loving and accepting no matter what. I think that JC's father may need time to deal with it, to let it set but probably because they seem so close and if JC only came out to them now, I think he'd be hurt.

Justin's two little half-brothers are his Dad's kids then?

Hmmm, interesting. And I agree with dirtypopper's post above, JC does seem like a daddy's boy - that picture of his dad hugging him from behind was one of the sweetest things I've ever seen.

All good things to keep in mind when I start plotting my story.

Thanks!
