Sorry to be so dramatic, but...I haven't been around LJ for a week or so, so I missed any calls for CFTC filters that may have gone around. If you've set up a filter for CFTC squeeing, yes! I want in! I can't go, so I need to live vicariously through luckier souls. :-)

In other news, my host's domain (illuminations.nu) is about to crash and burn. Waaah! In other other news, I've emailed Catherine about taking the reins! As soon as I hear what's entailed in being a host, I'll be able to make an informed decision. I've been thinking about buying space, off and on, for a year or so, so yes! We'll see what happens.

In other other other news, it's time for bed.

JC!

Very cool of you to contemplate stepping up. I hope it all goes smoothly, whatever you decide.

Speaking as someone who ran an archive hosting people, the first thing I can tell you is that being a webhost requires your sanity. [grins] Also, a great deal of patience, a lot of free time, and a healthy dose of masochism.

That said, it's an absolutely awesome experience, and one which I don't regret doing, so I say go for it!

Oyness! Will it make me want to run and fetch my gun? ;-) Just kidding, I don't own a gun. They give me the willies.

Or, you know, if you continue to only offer hosting to the existing (and very sane-appearing) hostees, you should be fine. The only trouble I've had since I opened my domain is when a hostee turned into a hosebag.

Good luck with it, babe :D

I have a big shiny domain name, and site to use... but I can't figure out how. Cause I am a big dumbass. So my thought is, I pay for it, and you get to figure out how to work it, or teach me how to work it. Or Something.

I'd be happy to support it financially if you can help me out in doing this thing. It's like 10 a month, so no biggie, but I have had it a while and not done anything with it, and I feel like a dolt.

Currently www.virgule.us

email me if you're interested.

I don't have a filter, because I've been to busy to post much and my squeeing consists mostly of, "OMG, I can't wait!" I need this so much, you have no idea.

It would be that much cooler if you were going, too.

I am so happy to hear you considering taking over the website...needless to say some people were nervous yesterday :)

I am living through others too with this whole CFTC thing!

Take care....

Super sekrit to you and the other illuminations.nu authours (please feel free to pass on).

In case you decide not to take over the reins, or move the site to a cheaper domain.

I have the www.illuminations.nu site. As in, all of it.

Rather than having to back up and save every single one of the (many, many, many) stories I love individually, I did a little 'techie trick' that recursively grabs every associated file. I need to double check that it got everything (which I'll do Sunday night, since I'm at my parents right now), but it should have gotten it all.

Now, I am not telling people *how* I did it, nor am I going to share the site (or individual sites) without the authours' permission, just in case any of you keep draft stories up there for betas to access.

I'm just letting you know in case the worst happens, and a site is lost or corrupted in the transfer, that you don't have to start from scratch. The files can also be a 'holding tank' for the site(s) in case an authour can't find a new 'home' before the 20th, and doesn't have a back up of the full site on their own machine (been bit by that one).

I also have no problem with sharing individual stories with people who didn't get them on time, while the authour gets a new site back up.

Anyways, as mentioned, I'm at my parents right now, so I can't access the files until at least Sunday night (probably late, East coast time), and I'll be at Challenge, so no access from Wednesday night until Monday night at the earliest, but I wanted to give the authours a heads-up. All files are deletable at authour request, and authour decision about sharing (including of individual stories) is final.
