JC mention. Not bad!
Jan. 2nd, 2004 05:52 amEspecially considering the other artists mentioned, it's nice to see our boy included.
Musical dares
Winter has always been considered an ill-fated time to release an album, but some of the best and bravest have chosen to do so anyway.
It's a brave band that releases an album in the dead of winter.
The weather isn't the issue; it's the timing that puts such a chill in the aisles of music stores across the country. The lucrative holiday season is history, and the summer months - when touring helps push the product - are too far in the future.
Thus music fans are left out in the cold, waiting for the release calendar to heat up in the spring.
Yet some artists have the courage and courtesy to give us something new during these darkest days. We salute them by telling you who they are, what they're releasing and when (although keep in mind, CD release dates tend to change quicker than the weather):
Feb. 10
• Melissa Etheridge Lucky. Etheridge follows up her new marriage with a new album.
• Indigo Girls All That We Let In. The duo is joined again by producer Peter Collins (Become You, Swamp Ophelia) and their longtime backing band. Joan Osborne, who added backing vocals to 1999's Come On Now Social returns to lend her voice to a handful of songs.
• Courtney Love America's Sweetheart. The rehabbing Love leaves Hole behind and releases her first solo disc.
• JC Chasez Schizophrenic Another *NSYNC member goes solo with a heavy dose of Michael Jackson- influenced R&B, pop and soul.
• Keb' Mo' Keep It Simple. The bluesman's first self-produced album features guest appearances from Robert Cray and Robben Ford.
• Kylie Minogue Body Language. The Australian tries to follow up the successful one-two punch of Fever and Light Years.
• Norah Jones Feels Like Home. The Grammy winner enlists Dolly Parton, Levon Helm, Garth Hudson and jazz drummer Brian Blade to help with her sophomore effort. More importantly, Jesse Harris (Grammy-winning songwriter of Don't Know Why) returns to offer support.
