So the scholarship thing went well. :-) Teared up a bit but I knew that was going to happen, so I was prepared. Just said a little thing about how Mom would have been pleased, touched and honored that the award was being given in her memory. Pleasant evening all around, and it was fun being back at the old school.
Swear I saw Justin Timberlake, if Justin was shorter, and had slightly mean eyes. Kid was cute enough, definitely looked like he could've been JRT's cousin or something, but he had something kind of...mean is the only way I can describe it, about his eyes. Piercing blue, but cold. Yeeks.
Kids! Most of them were so cute, so happy to get their awards and scholarships, and kind of embarrassed about it at the same time. It was a nice counterbalance to all the negative stuff you hear about the youth of America. No guns, drugs or pregnancy, just kids getting good grades, holding down jobs in some cases while getting good grades, or being athletes while getting good grades. Made me feel good not only about my alma mater, but about life in general, really. We'd have stayed through the end, but they were giving out tons of stuff. We stayed for most of it, though. Very glad that I went. :-)
It was an interesting, multi-layered evening. The school jazz band entertained the crowd before the ceremonies began, and I started thinking about Swing, a HS jazz ensemble AU by Amatia. So I'm sitting there thinking about my mom, my high school years, NSync, and slash. All the while reaffirming my love affair with life in general. A good, good evening.
What's up with the Eminem love, people? Is everyone turning away from Sparkly Dance Boys and toward petulant over-bleached gangsta-angsters? Ooh! Icon idea. I was all fired up about this EmLove at first, but I caught most of the video this morning, and yes, I cracked up in places. Monsieur Em will never replace the SDBs in my heart (not even close), but yeah, he can be entertaining.
And yo, could Em be any more secretly in love with Chris? He's trying to make us think that the line is "get your ass kicked," but it's really "get your ass kissed," and you know that The Em of Em's gonna do the puckering, y'all. Step out of the closet, Em. Free your mind, baby, I'm just sayin'.
Got a cable for my laptop so that I can put the CD drive in the case, and hook up the floppy externally. I can now write and listen to the Syncers at the same time. Woohoo! The sound is crap on laptop speakers, though, so I need to scrounge up some headphones. Once I get a modem for the thing, I'll be unstoppable.
Off to do some iconage, and write! Uh, or go to bed, maybe. :-D
