Mar. 2nd, 2004 06:14 amThis is the smart!JC blurbized from the longer Newsweek article - it was all over the online newspages yesterday. What's interesting though, are the titles. Most went out under:
"Former N'Sync Member Bashes Standards Hype"
NEW YORK -- For N'Sync's JC Chasez, there are more important things going on in the world than worrying about decency standards on TV.
"I think it's hilarious that things are the way they are," Chasez told Newsweek for the issue out on newsstands Monday. "We're about to elect the leader of our country. We don't have enough money for schools, we're at war and we're worried about this?"
Chasez was responding to the outcry following pop star Janet Jackson's infamous breast-baring performance at the Super Bowl halftime show, a performance that also included his N'Sync bandmate Justin Timberlake.
Chasez said we shouldn't be surprised that people sing about sex and want to listen to songs about it. He included such songs on his solo album "Schizophrenia."
"We all think about sex and love, and I've got songs about both on my record," he said. "People gravitate to the sex songs more. Surprise, surprise."
At azcentral.com, they ran the same snippet, but gave it a slightly different title spin. Also note, no "of NSync" designator:
"JC Chasez rips investigation of Janet Jackson."
At Texas A&M, in The Battalion, again, no NSync designator given. Also, no first name needed:
"Some issues more important than TV decency says Chasez"
In our nation's capital, washingtontimes.com not surprisingly, further condensed the snippet to focus on the political aspects of JC's words. Again, last name only, no NSync designator.
"Chasez's 2 cents"
Coming out from the shadows of Justin Timberlake, gone-solo 'N Sync singer J.C. Chasez decried the state of high alert over decency standards on TV and radio.
"I think it's hilarious that things are the way they are," Mr. Chasez says in the current issue of Newsweek magazine. "We're about to elect the leader of our country. We don't have enough money for schools, we're at war, and we're worried about this?"
Edited to add: Two more have popped up since I posted this.
Basically the same snippet. The Florida Sun.Sentinel directly quotes the political bits and summarizes the info about his album:
"Singer weighs in on decency uproar"
The Houston Chronicle posts the same basic snippet as the first few, but give it a more eye-catching title:
"Chasez says there's bigger news than breasts out there"
On the same page with an item about Justin's role in "Edison," CNN weighs in with the Newsweek blurb, but says:
"Chasez has questions"
Interesting stuff.
