Those are supposed to be screams of pain, in case you couldn't tell. I'm at a point where I can actually look at HTML code and kind of tell what's going on - if it's really, really, basic - and now I'm trying to unmurk the waters of style sheets. I want to cry.

I wish I had the kind of brain that could grasp this stuff in a heartbeat, but no. My noggin hurts. ::whimper::

I messed around with css a year or two ago because it makes modifying the look of multiple pages soooooooooo easy. I don't remember how well I got it worked out because I know I eventually abandoned the code - I think it was because I couldn't get it to look right across all major browsers.

it makes modifying the look of multiple pages soooooooooo easy. I don't remember how well I got it worked out because I know I eventually abandoned the code - I think it was because I couldn't get it to look right across all major browsers.

And those are the two reasons I'm thinking of giving up before I truly begin.

I *love* the idea of updating an entire site at once. Unfortunately, I'm reading about all the tweaks needed - and even then, still might not work - involved in getting things to format legibly for everyone. Getting the hang of HTML was bad enough!

What I want is simple enough, I just can't figure out how to do it without frames. I want to update my fic page so that there are two columns, one for WIP updates and one new fic updates. I want new stuff for each to show up at the top, with older finished things underneath. If I try to do a table version of this, fudging with one side causes spacing issues with the other. And getting Netscape and IE to agree? Holy frig, it's a mess.

I know that I can do it with frames, but I'm not much of a frames fan.

I can't believe that something as simple as two independent columns of information is giving me a brain hernia. I keep thinking I'm missing something really obvious!

And *yikes* that response was a mess. Style sheets are killing my brain!

All I know about style sheets is that my site stats always tell me that someone is trying to look at the code for them on my site. Which puzzles me extremely, because I don't have them. At least I don't think I do. I mean, if I had them, I'd know about them, right? Damn, I'm so confused.

Seriously, what are they? If it isn't covered by my beloved HTML FOR DUMMIES, I haven't a clue. Kudos to you for digging into this murky stuff.
