"Plug It In", chosen by Michaelangelo Matos of the SeattleWeekly, here. He lists his favorite 101 songs of the year; he's listed, in his words: "One track per primary credited artist — guest spots I'm more lenient about, which is why Jay-Z makes four appearances..." And JC's shot is the only one mentioned from the Jaxx album, so even more woohoo!

C700MB Go! 2003

One year. 101 songs. Seven and a half hours of the year's best music.

by Michaelangelo Matos

This is not a list ordered by preference; rather, it's a playlist, 101 songs I liked a lot this year, encoded onto a single MP3 CD-R. Think of it as a box set (it fills six audio CDs) of the year—an incomplete, metastasized Now or Totally Hits compilation that will continue to be modified over the next few months.

One track per primary credited artist—guest spots I'm more lenient about, which is why Jay-Z makes four appearances. (Missy Elliott gets on twice thanks to Hi-Fi Hillary, who mashes up Missy's 2002 smash with an old Meat Beat Manifesto track.)

Have fun. And happy New Year.
