As I've snippetized in email and in comments, here's the latest hoohah from the land of What the Hell is Going On With JC's Album?(tm) Edited to add: The post has been edited since I snagged this info.

"Someone claimed on another board that some freelancer from Jive told her that Jive pushed JC's album back to "punish" him because he wouldn't put a rapper on his first single like they wanted."

"I don't know anything about the punishment part, but both DMX and Jay-Z *were* approached. I have no other details, but that did in fact happen. Your friend is telling the truth."
!!!!!!!!!!
A week later both DMX and Jay-Z announced that they were leaving the business. Oy.

Date: 2003-09-28 09:29 am (UTC)The on going tale of Little Pink Ridinghood and the Big Bad Jive. I see book deals and merch. Little tshirts that say 'Grandma, what big name rappers you have!' and on the back 'All the better to bastardize your album with.' Yes, what an absolutely marvelous plan.
Oh and a week later both DMX and Jay-Z announced that they were leaving the business made me laugh really very loudly. Thanks for braving the Board of Doom to bring us such comedy.

Even if they want a rapper on it, it doesn't have to be done right away. It can always be put on the remix.
And the Jay-Z thing, didn't Britney say in one of her interviews that her favorite rapper was Jay-Z. Maybe Jive approached him about her first single.
