I was about to give Dr. Who a miss, then I realized that the good doctor himself is Christopher Eccleston, who played Major Henry West in 28 Days Later, one of my all-time favorite movies. Yay! Don't know if I'll watch every week, but I do like Christopher Eccleston. Hmmm. We shall see. It's better than that lameoid John Doe, that's for sure.

Date: 2006-03-18 03:45 am (UTC)(This is the second Who post I've seen on my flist today - has it started to screen in the US? I thought it already had. But I don't care! Love, it my darling flist! Love it as I do!)

Date: 2006-03-18 04:00 am (UTC)It premiered tonight (just now!) on the SciFi channel!
Christopher Eccleston (Shallow Grave, Jude, Cracker!!! oh my god) is such a brilliant choice and does a wonderful job.
I liked him in 28 Days Later. I loved the way he shaded the character - another actor might have played the major as just plain evil, but with Eccleston you really got a sense that the major was probably a good man pre-virus, he was just caught in an extraordinarily bad situation.
The second episode is winding up and I can say that I really enjoyed it! I think this will be a great addition to the Friday lineup. :-)

Date: 2006-03-18 04:11 am (UTC)Oh, fabulous. Grow my lovely little fandom, grow.
Ok, there is actually quite a bit of fandom activity but the writers, in general, are not looking for the same thing I am. I don't mean not-het or not-gen - I'd be entirely happy with oodles of Rose/Nine (he is Nine because he's the Ninth Doctor Who) if it hit the right buttons. And if there's any group of people who know where my buttons are it's the lovely people who comprise the flist! Yay!

Date: 2006-03-18 04:22 am (UTC)LOL! They advertised pre-order for the series one DVDs, but now I can't remember when they're going on sale. Sometime soon! Eeee! Blast Cristopher Eccleston for getting me interested in yet another TV series! ::shakes fist::

Date: 2006-03-18 06:34 am (UTC)Oh, you have so very much that is wonderful ahead of you. I watched the whole Eccleston season again last weekend and I'm a-brim with love and so, so eager for the squee to come. *g* I hope you like it as much as I think you will.

Date: 2006-03-18 07:01 am (UTC)It's already passed a couple of major hurdles. They completely bypassed the Annoying Girl Sidekick! cliche, which was *quite* refreshing.
I very much liked the way Rose responded to tree-girl's (Jane?) interest in the Doctor. She smiled a bit as the two of them went off to check the service corridor - if there'd been one whiff of jealousy or poutiness, I'd have been *so* out of there! But the look on her face was kind of cute, like, 'Go, Doc! Spank that tree booty!'
Is Rose his only other traveling companion, or will there be more?

Date: 2006-03-18 11:05 am (UTC)It's a part Doctor Who, you know? You grow to love the Doctor, and then there's a regeneration and you have to learn to love a new one. I think it's rather cool that RTD did a regeneration at the end of the first series -- it's like an introducion to the whole DW experience for new fans. I do hope, though, that Tennant is willing to stay on for a while.

Date: 2006-03-18 06:40 pm (UTC)See, this is a role Lance should have auditioned for. ;-)
How many travelers will there be? I know I could go to a site, but it's more fun to ask fans. :-)
