All the news that's fit to print.
Sep. 15th, 2003 08:15 pmDacey's post was fabulous.
Courtesy of FMBQ, the Warner-BMG merger could be a done deal by the end of September. From here. I wondered if this might mean release schedules being reshuffled in JC's favor, but I found this a few days before the March 4th thing was announced. Still, interesting.
Parlance, the moderator of the Too Old for This Crap mailing list, asked a friend in the recording industry about the latest rumor floating around concerning Justin, JIVE, and JC.
Parlance's friend gave her permission to post on the list, and Parlance gave me her permission to post it here.

Bands (no matter who they are) get pushed back all of the time for things such as not having all the marketing tools in place, another "big" release scheduled for the same day or changing artwork. In this case, the Justin release seems to be getting a lot of attention — not only among the Nsync crowd, but among "credible" publications.
Jive could have decided to push back JC's release for two reasons (off the top of my head):
1. Justin's CD is doing well. They may be reworking the strategy for JC's release based on things that have worked to make Justin be seen as an artist, not just as a member of Nsync.
2. Although it doesn't mean much to fans, the industry is getting ready for the 4th Quarter. This is the time that is saved for the greatest hits packages as well as the big blockbuster releases. No, it isn't as though JC's release isn't going to sell, it is just that I'm talking about BLOCKBUSTERS such as a new Streisand release, Celine Dion, hell, even a new Garth Brooks CD.
Basically, the 4th Quarter is considered the Memorial Day equivalent of a movie opening — it is time for the BIG huge releases. True, there are a few releases here and there that are outside of the blockbuster category, but most labels don't like to release them due to:
* Advertising rates being higher
* Co-op with retail is more expensive since there is more competition.
* During the 4Q, many retailers are only bringing in the releases that are guaranteed to sell. This is their last chance to turn a profit, so they generally do not bring in many new unproven titles, nor many that they are unsure of. Yes, Justin's release did well, but did Nick Carter's? Not to be a bitch, but did it do anything?
As for Justin having anything to do with pushing back the release? I'm not sure. Chances are that Jive earmarked a certain amount of money to both artists for tour support. With Justin's tour continuing with the arena dates as well as the club dates, he could already have gone through the amount put aside for his release this year. The unfortunate thing is that Justin's tour is going well. Since they haven't released JC's CD yet, it could have been a matter of seeing if Justin was going to continue through the year, and determining if they should use the funds set aside for JC for Justin. This isn't saying that JC will NOT be getting his tour support, but that it may be an issue of waiting until next year to get it.
