Lance! I've got your back, sweetheart.

Hmmmm, apparently I'm the only person who likes Lance's bizarre new bandom-esque pictures.

I do wonder why his eye color was changed/altered/tweaked to appear blue, when his natural odd, quite lovely, startling pear shade is so interesting. So the pics would less Lance-like, perhaps? He kind of looks like a cross between...someone and someone else, but I'm not quite sure who. Someone in the comments says there's a little Tim Roth in there, and they're right. So someone, someone and Tim Roth. I think it's an interesting mix, and I still can't believe it's him.

Love the hat, and the way his ear folds forward a bit to accommodate the tilt. As much as I like the dog collar/SM collar, I prefer Lance's lovely neck. Ah! Someone mentioned Adam Lambert; I've got the recipe now. Part David Beckham, part Adam Lambert, a twist of Tim Roth and just a pinch of Alice Cooper.

Seriously, you people don't think these are kinda sexy? Is it because it's Lance? Poor baby.

Poetry, Pete Wentz style (or so the meme says...).

Gakked from [livejournal.com profile] nemoinis

The "Be Pete Wentz" Poetry Meme:

1. Put your music player of choice on shuffle.
2. The first lines of twenty songs = a poem; the first line of the twenty-first song is the title.

It's all poetical and stuff. )

OH MY GAWD, I miss NSYNC.

So, my iPod served up Pop today. Waaaaaaaaaaaaah!!! Man, the ache of missing them was physical, I kid you not. Fired up YouTube when I got home and I've been watching/listening to it pretty steadily as I've surfed.

I'm crying with love for these guys.

Chris: How cute was he as a DJ? I especially love it when he does that full swipe thing and bends over the turntable kind of sideways. I'm completely not making sense, so watch for yourself at 2:04. Chrissofer!

Lance: Other than looking completely hot, Lance doesn't do a whole lot in this one. But! Gotta give him points for the Lance Dance. Lance with his original equipment, so gorgeous...his nose, get your mind out of the gutter. 1:40

Joey: Poor mangled Joey and his accidentally crushed leg. But! There's a bright side! Instead of dancing, Joey gets to hang wid da ladeez. 1:50 Evil Wade filled in for Joey on the dancing side of things, but Evil Wade will get no links to his faux-Joey booty shaking.

Justin: He's becoming a man, but there's still a certain soft, young quality to his face just here: 1:52 Collectively, I *love* their Pop outfits.

JC!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, JC. This breaks my heart because I love you so. This to me was the height of his gorgeousness with NSync. "NSYNC's dark-haired beauty." Can't remember the reviewer who wrote that, but it's oh, so true. Ah! Here 'tis. ::le sigh:: *Love* JC's outfit. Love the hair, love the chin strip. Love JC sauntering down the Tunnel O' Sex, getting felt up 'cause he's a rock star and that's what they do. 1:22 Love his singing. Love his dancing. Love him.

They broke my heart in seventeen places. Why'd they go away? ::cries::

Husbands is the funniest peoples.

Classic hubs!monkey exchange.

We're in the car, hubs is driving, and we're waiting for an opportunity to turn left out of the drive-through lane. Hubs suddenly guns it (have I mentioned that he loves the new car?) and peels out onto the road.

Me: You really need to stop.

Hubs: No I don't.

Me (with raised eyebrow): You don't need to stop?

Hubs: I don't stop. (Said with all the Clint Eastwood bad-assery he could push into it.)

Much ROFLing ensued from me. I told him that he's like a character from some crazed adult cartoon. "I don't stop." What the hell does that even mean? Honestly, the man is a complete nut.

Fic pimp - Through a Glass, Darkly by TokenBlackGirl

Read a kick-ass crossover fic last night, Through a Glass, Darkly by TokenBlackGirl. A nice, long Supernatural/Doctor Who crossover that'll have you weeping with the goodness.

It's a Dean/Martha pairing (HOORAY!), with Sam, Bobby, Ellen, Ten, Donna, and Capt. Jack as the other half of the main cast, with familiar Doctor Who/Supernatural baddies in terrifying supporting roles. Lilith and the Master, natch, are in attendance.

If you've ever eyed Martha and Dean and thought it was just too much pretty to hit the screen at one time, and that you would EXPLODE FROM THE YUMMY GOODNESS if it ever happened, you owe it to yourself to take this story for a test drive. The dialogue and voices of each character are eye-poppingly spot on.

What are you waiting for? It's good! Go read! ::pushes::

Edited to add: I realize that this is probably an older story that everyone except me has already read. But! If you're like me and you haven't read it, go read!

New car, woohoo! Well, new to me, anyway. :-D

Due to a husband-related incident last week, I've been carless. This was the second car of ours that he'd managed to kill, and I was none too happy about it. Luckily, hub's brain is the size of a raisin and his skull is at least five inches thick (with pudding and cookies cushioning everything in between), so he was fine. The hospital kept him for a few days for observation ('cause this was his eleventy millionth brush with head trauma), but he's (mostly) fine. Aiiiiiii! That's the second time I've gotten a call at work to tell me that...wait, the third. Jeebus. The third time I've gotten one of those, "Hello, Mrs. Hubs!monkey? This is AdmittingLady at YourFriendlyHospital..."

Aiii! Too much drama in between. Like, when I called to inform my insurance company about the accident, there was "some concern" with my last payment because it had been made by e-check, and I'm thinking...uh, so? It's not like a paper check where you have to wait a few weeks for everything to go where it needs to go, blahblahblah, am I right? Isn't an e-check immediate, in theory? Also, the fact that I'd paid the premium THREE WEEKS AGO should have made any e-check questions null and void, yes? Yes. BASTAGES. I actually had to fax a copy of my statement showing that the funds had been withdrawn from my account before we could go forward, and I'm getting all het up again just thinking about it. I mean seriously. Three weeks and they still needed proof from me that THEY had withdrawn the funds from my account? OH MY GOD, I NEED TO STOP THINKING ABOUT THIS BEFORE I STAB SOMEONE. Anyway.

So! Our policy provides for a vehicle for up to thirty days while the car is fixed. Went to the impound to retrieve the cell phone and the registration and sign the paperwork to release the vehicle so the insurance guys could tow it to the auto body shop. Little did I know that the impound lot covers about THREE friggin' zip codes, and you have to walk back to your vehicle, and they don't have a courtesy car to take you to the back 40 to get there. HOLY LAWD, the drama. Saw the car and knew pretty much immediately that it was a lost cause. Even if they'd fixed the thing (HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!) there's no way I'd have trusted it more than possibly pulling it out of the garage for a quick spin down to the corner store.

When they called to tell me that it had been totaled I wasn't the least bit surprised. They redeemed themselves for the MASSIVE PAYMENT FAIL by giving me a surprising bit more for the car than I'd expected, and giving me a check that day. Woohoo! I'm suddenly in love with my insurance company, even if they are all bastages!

I figured that two cars killed is more than enough, and there's no way that I'll ever buy a new car again, not as long as I'm married to hubs!monkey. There's a car lot nearby that's been in operation for about 25 years, and they're BBB accredited, or whatever you call it. Went online and checked out their inventory. I saw this little thing and fell immediately in love. :-)

.........

The one in the little pics is mine, the wikimedia folks very kindly provide a bigger picture.

2004 Honda CR-V, satin silver metallic finish. Squee! Went to see it in the rain Thursday, but didn't test drive. Drove up to the lot this afternoon and someone was looking at it! Aiiiiii! By this time I'd pretty much been thinking of it as mine, so I was just a little distressed to say the least. Hung about trying not to look too interested while the couple checked it out and examined it inside and out and sat in it and stuff. When they finally walked off to another part of the lot I wandered over very casually and staked my claim. :-) Took it for a test drive and fell even further in love. Whipped out my checkbook, and now it's mine! It's in my garage!!!

It's a bit bigger than my old car, which was a regular 4 door, and of course it has a higher profile, being an SUV and all. It's going to take a little getting used to I think, but I so love it. :-D

The week in television!

Let's see what happened in TV this week, shall we?

Heroes: OH MY GOD, I can't wait until the end of this Samuel/Carnival arc. Sick to death of the carnival, sick to death of Samuel's skeevy ways, and I am BEYOND sick to death of Emma. There are fans out there who love her - though I can't figure out why. I find her a completely boring character, and when she's combined with Peter (also boring, to me) it's a boring story arc to the power of INFINITY, y'all. I want to scoop my eyes out with a spork when they come onscreen. And have I mentioned that I think it's BORING? More Sylar, y/y? Thank you. I won't even cut for my comment on this week's episode, which is...wot? Hmmmm. A few exciting moments for sure, but overall, meh.

Vampire Diaries: This is the TV version of potato chip fic. Whee! This show kills me, I can't believe I actually watch and enjoy it. ;-) I liked this week's episode, not so much teen angst with what's-her-face and Stefan, woohoo! Cut for spoilers and such )

Supernatural: Uh...what the hell? Not even going to cut because seriously, there's nothing to spoil. Is this really the same show that gave us 'A Very Supernatural Christmas,' 'Ghostfacers' and 'Mystery Spot'???? Yikes. While casting Lazlo Hollyfeld as a mental patient was a no brainer, casting him as a former hunter cum mental patient was a head scratcher, 'cause I couldn't see him as a former hunter. If a library had been part of the Roadhouse, I could totally have seen that guy as the quirky librarian Ellen hired to keep him off the streets because a werewolf had it out for him, or some such. Disappointing episode. :-(

Project Runway: Last week the correct person went home. This week though, I've got to wonder why Ping's overly-eccentric ass wasn't booted to the curb. Come on, you send a model down the runway and her entire butt is showing? And the crying. Maybe I'm just a hardened, wizened old shell of a hag, but seriously, if that chick starts crying one more time, I'm gonna reach through my TV screen and slap her up 'side her head. JEEBUS. I liked that Alexis-the-model shook things up by choosing someone other than her designer for the challenge. Woohoo!

Models of the Runway: Bastages, making me care about the models. I refuse! But I definitely like that the designers are shaking things up now, choosing different models instead of sticking with the same ones. I don't want to see a love fest, I want to see people eyeing bone struture, coloring, walks, etc., and then getting cutthroat about choosing who'll make their designs look good. I'm not evil, I swear!

Robota. OY!

I bought Robota two weeks ago, thinking, correctly as it turns out, that it would be my first book of 2010. When I bought it I thought it was a book of very cool robot illustrations, not realizing that it was indeed an illustrated science fiction story. Doug Chiang, the illustrator, is the Academy-Award-winning design director for the Star Wars prequels. The pictures are just what you want from sci fi artwork. They're gorgeous and sweeping and larger-than-life.

The book started out promisingly enough. There were just enough touches of humor to make me laugh out loud in spots, and at least one or two very interestingly written passages that made me stop and think about my own love affair with words. Here's my favorite bit:

Then the hunters emerged into sunlight. They were not men at all. They were robots, carrying long thin rifles in their equally thin arms, moving on slender legs with the grace and precision of spiders.

...moving on slender legs with the grace and precision of spiders. I. Love. That. It's such a wonderful description, equally beautiful and creepy. It's perfection.

If this were a paperback with no illustrations, its words would fill the slimmest volume; I'm a fast reader, and from cover to cover, began and finished the book this morning in a couple of hours. It was an interesting story, but ultimately it was unsatisfying. I've been thinking about it off and on, and finally realized that the book had no warmth, almost as if the author let the illustrations carry the story instead of the illustrations enhancing the story.

And then the end. ::sigh:: I'll put the rest behind a cut in case someone out there wants to remain unspoiled.

Are you kidding me? )

Fandom: What are you into (now)?

It's a three-day weekend for me (whee!), the perfect time to pose a question to my friends list and any interested passers-by.

At the time I took my extended break, people were drifting away from popslash. Lots of fen wound up in bandslash, and Supernatural was really gathering steam -- though it may have seemed that way 'cause I had just discovered it :-D. While I was away I watched a lot of shows I hadn't before, so this is a perfect time to see what I may or may no longer have in common with my friends list.

Question: So what's everyone into now? What are your primary fandoms? Secondary? What fandoms do you only read in, what fandoms have inspired you to write?

Since I've wanted to do this for forever but just thinking of it made me tired, I offer my fandom timeline so you can see not just what I'm into, but where I've been. Long, so I don't blame you if you skip it.

down Fox's rabbit hole...so to speak. )

New Project Runway tonight! :-D

Hooray, new Project Runway! Doesn't seem right though, starting so soon after the last one ended. Still...Project Runway! Also, because the bastages tried to get me to care last time, I'll be watching Models of the Runway too. I'm a little miffed at the Models show, 'cause I don't want to care. I want indiscriminate auf-ing here and there, and I don't want to get swept up in model drama. Aiiii!

Hmmmmm. I need a Tim Gunn icon.

illuminations.nu... LJ AS MESSAGEBOARD!

Does anyone know how to get in contact with Catherine, formerly of illuminations.nu?

1) Took a look a the domain (illuminations.nu) today and it's set to expire in July 2010. Good news! I don't have to do anything there to get the site up and running again.

2) Called the hosting site (whatever you call it) and even better news: even though everything was booted off the main server, two backup copies of the files were made. Eeeeeee! The files have now been "packaged" as the rep called it, in case they do another purge while I'm trying to get this taken care of -- and believe me, with the luck I've been having lately, that's exactly what would happen.

Unfortunately, there's a fly in the ointment.

When I told the guy I had a new email account (cuz I do), he asked for it and then said that I'd have to provide proof of ID. No problem. EXCEPT...and you can probably guess where this is going...Catherine is still listed as the owner.

Aiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!!! I'm torn between just filling it out anyway to see what happens, OR, seeing if I can talk them into accepting the payment without changing the ownership.

So if anyone out there knows Catherine and can get in touch with her, please ask her to get in touch with me. I sent email to her catherine4654 address as soon as I saw the form with her name on it, but so far I've had no response. I know that she travels extensively for business sometimes, so if there's another, better email address out there and you know it, please let her know I'm looking for her. :-) Thanks!

Now for a cheesy exit line: Thank you, and may God bless.

edited to add: We have contact!

Seashore! Gravy and chicken...and donuts!

OY. Okay, so one good headbutt later, a little light clicked on in my head and I was able to crop and resize my image using Seashore. Hooray! And I figured it out on my own, mostly! Unfortunately, the text I applied looks like complete and utter crap. Waaaah! My brain, she is hurting! She's not used to being used on the weekend, and learning to use Seashore is causing an uprising in my skull.

Writing! As usual, the ending is giving me grief. My New Year's revolution is to start writing the endings FIRST, then it'll all be gravy and chicken from that point forward. YES. Well...lumpy gravy and chicken with splintery bones, perhaps, but you get my drift.

I'm craving a donut, but we currently have no donuts in the house. There could be a few Little Debbie blueberry muffinlets left, though. Off to investigate, and then write. ::cries::

Cheap movies! Three bucks!

Falling asleep in front of the computer, so I think it's time I tucked my wee brain in bed. But first! A post to celebrate the goodness of cheap entertainment!

I love Big Lots. I love when they have boxes bursting with rows of colorful DVDs, 'cause you never know what you'll find -- for three bucks! Here are the latest disks that caught my eye and are now in shrinkwrap in my home:

The Thief Lord. I know absolutely nothing about this movie except what's on the cover, which looked vaguely intriguing. Also, thanks to IMDB, I know that one of the stars has grown up to be quite a hottie. Oh internet, I love you so.

Tsui Hark's Vampire Hunters. Never heard of it, but I do love me some horror and some Asian cinema, so two thumbs up already! Also, from reading the description, this could fall into Asian crack cinema territory. Dude, I am so there.

Thunderbirds Are Go (International Rescue Edition). Aiiii! You show me a man who doesn't enjoy crack puppet theater, and I'll show you a man with no soul. Team America World Police still holds the record as the funniest crack puppet theater EVAR, but the Thunderbird movies are fun too. Which takes us to...

Thunderbird 6 (International Rescue Edition). TCM showed three of these not too long ago, and this was by far the most fun and the funniest. Hooray! Now it's mine! Still shrinkwrap fresh, just waiting for the day when I need puppet hilarity the most.

Triple word score! DVDs containing multiple movies are genius. I just bought two:

I Walked with a Zombie / The Body Snatcher. Squee! I love, love, love old horror and sci fi movies. LOVE. Not so crazy about "I Walked", but I love "Body Snatcher", which is worth watching for the ending alone. Mmmmmmmm, creepy.

The Curse of Frankenstein / Taste the Blood of Dracula. I think both of these were originally Hammer films, and nothing says "Hammer Films" like fake blood so thick and neon that it looks like red tempera straight out of the jar. Also, Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee star. Do I really need to say more?

Aiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii! Self-induced paroxyms of pain!

...well, maybe not pain exactly, but honestly, I've had an LJ since the dinosaurs roamed the earth, so why is it always such a challenge to change my LJ style? It takes me forever to settle on something that I like. I give myself a headache, people. Off to peruse the styles yet again, looking for the most fabulous mix of features that LJ has to offer. Waaaah! I think I may just default to that cute Expressive_winter with the snowman, or whatever the hell it's called. Because seriously, can you ever have too many snowmen? I thought not.

Also! Does anyone have the Seashore photo editing thingie downloaded? If so, how the HELL does it work??? I just want to make some new icons, not try to deciper the Dead Sea Scrolls. Nothing like a little bit o' freeware to remind you that you're not quite as smart as you think you are.

I shake my fist in your general direction, Seashore software, and give you an added headbutt to boot. I hope it hurts. Bastage.

Woohoo! I'm a paid user again! Additional user pics have been uploaded (same old ones, just...useable again), and as soon as I dash this baby off I'm updating my LJ style. Whee!!! It's probably wrong and spastic of me to enjoy being a paid user as much as I do. If I could just manage to catch a friggin' permanent account sale... ::grumble::

In other news, we didn't have a snow day. In other other news, I got in early again this morning, which meant I could leave early. Whee! I'm digging getting off at 3:50 instead of 5:30. If I'm not careful this might just become a habit. The snow is completely gorgeous and I love it. Not crazy about driving in it, but I do love the way it looks. It's going to be crazy cold tonight, like, 10 degrees or something. Popped by the store on the way home to load up on snacks and stuff so I wouldn't have to venture out tomorrow unless I lost my mind and absolutely HAD to go out for something. I am much of the being prepared.

Seems like I had other things to share but for the moment I'm stumped. Hmmmm, I'm sure it'll come to me when I least expect it...not unlike the Spanish Inquisition! No one ever expects the Spanish Inquisition.

Thursday ramblings.

Today was a pretty good day. Because of the winter storm bearing down on us, I actually got my lazy but up and out of the door before 9:00. !!! Yes, it surprised me too! Arrived at 7:30 and proceeded to have a quiet, uneventful day. I'm still getting caught up from being on vacation three days, off sick four days, seven hours, and then throw in the days lost for Christmas and New Year... I've worked about one hour in the last two weeks. Needless to say, I've had plenty of work to catch up on, and today was finally my chance. Didn't get as much finished as I'd hoped, but I made a pretty sizeable (small) dent in the pile. Woohoo! Go me!

Opened the shades in my office and watched the snow come down, half out of love of falling snow, and half out of fear that the snow would pile up faster than anticipated. If the universe is listening, I'd like to say that I fully anticipate a snow day tomorrow, SO DON'T LET ME DOWN. A Friday snow day is just a little too much to hope for, but I've got my fingers crossed.

So, Thursdays usually mean Vampire Diaries and Supernatural. When does the series second half start? Soon, right? I hope? Probably not? But maybe...? Oy, I'm so tired I can't think straight.

12:30, and I'm insane. JC! Hanson!

I'M STILL UP. I shouldn't be, I should be asleep, 'cause I have stuff to do at work tomorrow. Clearly, I'm insane.

JC! Watched "That's the Way Love Goes" on YouTube a little while ago and felt myself carried away on nostalgic waves of love for the puppies. Waaaah! So freakin' talented, every one of them, far and away the best of the bunch. As someone commented on the video, "The last and best boyband ever." True, so true. They were just...perfect. I miss them. :-(

Aiii! My iPod just decided that it's time for a little solo Chasez, "Lose Myself." I swear, my iPod has a brain and is psychic. I couldn't love it more if it had fur. Other examples of iPod brainwave-liness: shortly after I read an article detailing LeRoi Moore's death, my iPod began playing Dave Matthews Band songs. !!! Also, my iPod loves Hanson. I'd truthfully say that Hanson songs pop, up on average, about 1000x more than anything else I have loaded up. Mmmmmmmmmm, Taylor Hanson is so puuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurty.

JC!
