The Doctor's lost. Martha goes to find him:
1) The Doctor's lost. Martha goes to find him
2) Well, my heart knows me better than I know myself...

favorite story this year (of my own):

Holy Hepsiba, I have no idea. Quite possibly Francine is a Time Lord, just 'cuz. Or The two missing pages from John Smith's diary, because it's my own personal canon concerning the Doctor and Joan Redfern, and his motives for asking her onboard the TARDIS -- which have nothing to do with OMG,LURVE!

my best story this year:

Maybe it's just the glow of nostalgia that's blinding me, but why do I remember this being easier in past years? Best story? Maybe Crazy Enough to Try, because the dark!Sync universe was going to be kick-ass and awesome, and I loved the idea of a scrappy, slightly psychotic JC winning a bar fight. Still love this story madly.

most popular story this year, in my opinion:

Hmmmm...probably Francine is a Time Lord, with Martha meets Reinette a close second.

most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion:

Bookends. I won't say underappreciated, because that sounds egotistical and pouty, but I was a little saddened that my love letter to the hotness of Bill and Ron Weasley didn't make much of an impact on the world. I friended a bunch of Potterverse people to see what they were up to, but I don't think that many have me friended in return -- which makes sense, because my primary focus at the time was popslash. Still, I love the story madly.

most fun story:

Martha and the Doctor have a child together is probably the most fun, though there were several Doctor Who drabbles that amused me immensely while writing them. I don't usually write kid fic, but when I saw the writing prompt I couldn't resist.

sexiest story:

The Doctor needs a new suit because there's actual sexin' goin' on in that one, and I hardly ever write descriptive sexin'. Aiii!

single sexiest moment:

Because there's actual sexin' going on, this snippet from The Doctor needs a new suit:

Martha wrapped her legs around his waist, and with her back against the wall for support, the Doctor slid into her slowly.

His thrusts were deep; Martha bit her lip and tried to keep from moaning. The Doctor buried his face in her neck, and as he moved, he huffed puffs of breath against her skin. He groaned softly and murmured in Gallifreyan. He kissed her, long and deep and hard, to match his movement between her legs.

"holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:

Bookends, (Ron/Bill) as mentioned above. Hey, don't judge me, it's not my fault that Bill Weasley's presented as the hottest thing in the wizarding universe. Since one sexy Weasley quite naturally leads to another, a Weasleycest story was born.

story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:

Francine is a Time Lord. Based on every episode I'd seen (except the final one because I'm drawing out the end of the season as long as I can!!!), Martha's mother was just kind of there, and a bit irritating. But when I saw the drabble tag prompt: "Francine is a Time Lord," all kinds of wheels started turning in my head.

The more I slotted the onscreen character into my story, the more I realized how awesome she is/could be. If any character on the show turned out to be a surprise Time Lord, it would be Francine. The woman's got a core of steel, and her imperious nature is perfect for a quite pompous Time Lord. Plus, how gorgeous would she look in the ceremonial Gallifreyan robes and headdress?

hardest story to write:

All of them. Bwahaha! Again, Bookends, but not because it was difficult to write, particularly, but I just didn't seem to be satisfied with it no matter how many times I turned it inside out and propped it on its head. I tried it in different tenses, I did a line-by-line reconstruction...at one point I think I had four different working versions on my harddrive. Of all the fic I've written this year, that one was far and away the most tortured to reach its final form. That may sound like it was hard to write, but really, I knew exactly what I wanted to say and where I wanted it to go; finding the best way to do it was what had me stuck. Hmmm. Which still sounds like it was hard to write. ::ponders::

biggest disappointment:

Crazy Enough to Try, because it was supposed to be part of a grand, sweeping popslash epic and I totally dropped the ball. I liked the story and the universe planned for it (and future stories within the universe), but I never got it in gear enough to actually do anything with it, and that's disappointing.

biggest surprise:

Probably Francine is a Time Lord. It's one of those stories that clicked more deeply with people -- and me -- than I expected, which is always an extremely pleasant surprise.

most telling story:

Just to change it up a bit, I'd say my ficlets where Torchwood is mentioned: The Doctor shows up at Christmas dinner, The Tardis has a nightmare, and Martha and Jack are engaged probably paint an interesting picture concerning my views on Gwen Cooper, the supposed "heart" of Torchwood. Ah, yesssss.

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?

Quite a bit more, actually, the bulk of it in a new fandom to boot!

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2007?

Never saw Doctor Who coming, writing-wise, and certainly not het fic! It's a double whammy I've thoroughly enjoyed. I watched Who last year, but never felt compelled to write Nine/Rose (or Ten/Rose, for that matter), and I never felt compelled to slash either Nine or Ten with Capt. Jack. But! All that changed when the very delicious Martha Jones showed up as Ten's newest companion. I love Martha. Martha Jones is my not-so-secret fictional-girl crush. Also, I've added Freema Agyeman, the actress who portrays Martha, to my list of grrrrrl crushes. She's way too adorable (and gorgeous) for words.

Did you take any writing risks this year? (See above for unexpected pairings, etc.) What did you learn from them?

Not exactly a risk, but the unforeseen jump from real person slash to media-based het was an interesting shift. It's the first time in my fandom life (about eight, nine years) that a het pairing has been my primary focus.

Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?

More writing! More and more!

Popslash: There are several popslash things I'd like to post in 2008, at least one series, maybe two, that need to (finally!) be finished. There are a couple of longer things that need some tweaking and then they'll be unleashed.

Harry Potter: There are things I've been working on that need to be finished up, polished and posted. Maybe fix or six things? All jossed to hell and back by JK Rowling's mad ramblings six and seventh books, but that won't stop me.

Stargates SG-1 and Atlantis: As long as Ronon continues to be drop dead gorgeous (OMG, hurt me), I'll be shipping him with Sheppard. Yay! I just found a little ficlet that's begging to be expanded, so there's that... There are some SG-1 things in my writing journal that need to be polished up and pushed out of the door, because the world can always use a little more Daniel/Cameron slash. ::purr::

Doctor Who: Yay! More and more!

Holy crap, you wrote a lot of Dr. Who! I had no idea.

I hope you mean what I think you mean when you talk about unfinished popslash series. That would be lovely and [livejournal.com profile] silveryscrape could die happy.

Happy New Year!

I hope you mean what I think you mean when you talk about unfinished popslash series.

I do indeed! There's definitely at least one additional part to the story; sadly, it's been languishing on my harddrive for waaaaaaaaaaaay longer than I'd like to admit. And after that one, I'd planned one last installment to wrap things up. SO! It would be nice to have that really, truly completed. :-)

Happy New Year, sweets! ((((((Donna)))))

Wow. I had no idea that you wrote so much Potter and Dr. Who! If you ever need encouragement for your popslash, I can be the biggest cheerleader you need!

If you ever need encouragement for your popslash, I can be the biggest cheerleader you need!

LOL! Thanks! I just might hold you to that. ;-)

I think about three-quarters (four-fifths?) of my friends list don't care much about popslash anymore, so having interested parties aboard would be quite nice. :-)

I'm totally here for you!
