Songs I Love #5

This is the perfect song to play at a decibel roughly equivalent to a thousand teenies screaming at an NSync concert.

Wail along with Janis and let the negative energy flow *right* out of your body. Might bring on a tear or two, but that's therapeutic, right? All I need is a microphone and a stage, baby, or a convertible and a warm summer night.

Anyway, 'Piece of My Heart.' Yes. My new anthem.

Piece of My Heart
by Big Brother and the Holding Company
(Janis Joplin on vocals)

(Come on, come on, come on, come on)
Didn't I make you feel like you were the only man?
Yeah, and didn't I give you nearly everything that a woman possibly can?
Honey, you know I did!
And each time I tell myself that I, well, I think I've had enough.
But I'm gonna show you, baby, that a woman can be tough.
I want you to come on, come on, come on, come on and take it.

Take another little piece of my heart now, baby.
(Oh, oh, break it!)
Break another little bit of my heart now, darling, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
(Oh, oh, have a...)
Have another little piece of my heart now, baby.
You know you got it if it makes you feel good.
Oh, yes indeed.

You're out on the street, looking good.
And baby, deep down in your heart I guess you know that it ain't right.
Never, never, never, never, never, never hear me when I cry at night.
Babe, and I cry all the time!
But each time I tell myself that I, well, I can't stand the pain.
But when you hold me in your arms, I'll sing it once again.
I'll say come on, come on, come on, come on, yeah, take it!

Take another little piece of my heart now, baby.
(Oh, oh, break it!)
Break another little bit of my heart now, darling, yeah.
(Oh, oh, have a...)
Have another little piece of my heart now, baby.
You know you got it, child, if it makes you feel good.

(guitar break)

I need you to come on, come on, come on, come on and take it!
Take another little piece of my heart now, baby.
(Oh, oh, break it!)
Break another little bit of my heart, now darlin', yeah come on now.
(Oh, oh, have a...)
Have another little piece of my heart now, baby.
You know you got it... [wails]
Take it!

Take it another little piece of my heart now, baby.
(Oh, oh, break it!)
Break another little bit of my heart now, darling, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
(Oh, oh, have a...)
Have another little piece of my heart now, baby,
You know you got it, child, if it makes you feel good.

LOVE that song! Oh, love it sooo much. And you should hear me sing it when I'm alone in the car, baby. ;-)

Also? Love you icon. ::smooch::

Isn't it the best? One of the top five songs EVAH, baby! The cats weren't too pleased at the volume, that's for sure. When I hit the lottery I'm building a sound booth in my basement. Well, maybe more of a sound *lounge*, with comfy couches and chairs and stuff, and a space for magazines, books and my computer. And the most righteous sound system ever built. The room would be soundproof, so I can belt 'em out at the top of my lungs.

Also? Love you icon. ::smooch::

Better living through chemistry. ::double smooch::

Love that song, too. Janis rocks.

I grew up on her music thanks to my father.

My mom loved her!

Man, that song. It's got a little of everything in it, and the way she sings... Joyous pain. I wish she were still around, kickin' ass. ;-)

Pointless fact: The orginal version of "Piece of My Heart" was done by Erma Franklin, Aretha's sister. It was a reasonably successful R&B single, but it seems to have been entirely eclipsed by Janis and Big Brother.

My parents couldn't stand Janis Joplin. Or the Beatles. Or the Rolling Stones, or many many others. So of course, I had to listen to them all. I've been contrary about art and music since I was eight. :D

Heart the song, heart the icon,

Would you by any chance know how I could get my hands one some ticket for the nyc show? Cause I've actually worked enough to almost justify ( hah ) a trip across the atlatic to go see the Pretty...
